Upgraded the BD twins to… MPI Super B/GT4202

Talked with HTT a couple weeks ago and it was like pulling teath to get a straight answer out of them with these questions.They just kept saying if you tow stick with what you have and acted as if anything else would be a huge mistake.Never once did they ask about the mods to my truck or act like it made a difference when I tried to tell them.They didn't support the idea of twins.They are just dead set on what will and will not work.Not saying they don't know what they are talking about but I feel there are some variables involved when it comes to performance mods and turbos.
lmills has been talking with me and I hate to keep picking his brain as I know he is a busy man.Just want to get this one right and be happy with the decission.

Will the 64/13/65 give more top end?How much difference in spool up can I expect between the 62/12 and it?

its hard to have both quick spool and lots of top end, unless you have twins. you usually have to trade one for the other.

OK...
62/12 good for 450 hp...quickest spool
62/14/65 good for 500 hp...just slightley slower...but still fast
62/14/71 and 64/14/65 good for 550 hp...just slightley slower yet...tows great still
64/14/71 good for 600 hp....a little slower yet...have to drive around lower rpms but still tows well
66/14/71 and 66/16/71 good for 650 hp...will not spool till 1700 rpms...can tow but have to keep rpms up.
71 Bullets and A5ks...good for 700 hp (if tuned right...lol) and will not spool till 1800-1900 rpms...slow to 10 or 12 psi...but then screams. Requires a good driver to tow...but heck...I did for 100k!

I edited the 13ss subs for a 14 bit...read up.

I am in the hot shot business and I tow every day all day due to having a team driver. I tow anywhere from 8k-21k on top of my 9100lbs GN. Would I be able to get away with a Silver 64/14/71 or should I stick to II silver 62/71/14? I have many more mods coming such as AirDog 150, ATS exhaust manifold, Smarty + gauges and a converter & transmission from ATS.

dont forget about the 64/65/13 it would be more tow friendly than the 71.

My turbo evolution went from stock -> 62/12 -> 62/14 -> SPS66/71 -> SPS62/71 -> BD twins -> Super B/GT4202 twins. Note that the stock turbo is 57 mm and the Super B is 57 mm.
The pattern above is that I 100% fully admit that I fell into the mystic of trying a progressively bigger turbo, but in the end I've come back to the small turbos. This was because daily driving, towing, and stoplight-to-stoplight were the most important things to me.
I never ran a 64 turbo, but I did run a 66 turbo. The 66 royally sucked for towing. The 66 turbo was either "on boost" or "off boost" - basically nothing in between. When it was "off-boost", like during flat cruising, it smoked a constant stream. When it was "on-boost" it was either wound-up in one gear less than normal or driving 80+ mph. When running a 66 the mileage dropped 1.5-2 mpg on average due to the smoke stream and constant high cruise EGT.
You also tow very heavy and do this all day long 24/7. Therefore, driveability, mileage, and reliability would probably be your most important considerations. If it was me, I don't think I would want to tow at the fueling levels required to drive the bigger turbo from off-idle on up 24/7. That's just more wear-and-tear on the truck and the fun factor would wear out quickly.

maybe I am blind but I did not see trans type in your sig tuf-4x4
the 64/65/13 would be a nice turbo for you if you have a manual trans if you run an auto I go for 62/65/13ss
later if you get money wise and go to twins either can be a great secondary turbo on top of an s400 etc
if I had only known in the very beginning how great a properly set up twin combo runs
my only wish is that I would have met nathan at MPI 2 years ago
thats about the time I started buying single turbos $$ trying to find that perfect set up that does not exist IMO ........unless of course you get twins
