Ultimate's Rock Crusher Transmission

Hi All!

Though I'd give an update on my new Ultimate Transmission.

While the case is not much to look at the internals of this thing are absolutely huge and are darn near bullet proof.

Take the 1.5 inch output shaft for instance. It is the same size as the axle shafts in the rear diff.
Check it out!

Below are pictures of the stock transfer case input and the "Opie/Ultimate" piece.

The puny stocker...

And The real deal!

What I can't show you is how lightning fast this thing shifts yet it isn't harsh or doesn't bark the tires (unless I want to). The Ultimate never hesitates or hunts between gears and is extremely positive.

As soon as you start adding big power to a Dodge you begin to realize that the factory has first and second gear way too close together....Not to worry as Opie and Dave have got the shift pattern dialed!
The trans shifts from first to second and unless you really pay attention you wont notice that the trans has shifted again and you are in third....This uses the torque of the Cummins to max advantage.

Acceleration is nothing short of spectacular and I wish that I had run the truck down the track before the Ultimate so I could compare the ET's.....Then again I broke every time I tried to launch the truck hard! I guarantee an improvement over a standard shift pattern....Stay tuned for track times.

I also can't show you the other numerous unique and one off parts that are inside...I can tell you Opie runs some fairly sick line pressure and that you won't find a transmission with more clutch pack pressure!

While it's street manors are a bit aggressive for guys under 700hp... and its not for everyone..... I though you horsepower freaks would be interested.

I'm pretty sure I'll never own one, but I'd still like to learn more about this trans. Is it still the same case as the 48re or is this a completely different tranny?

Ultimate uses the factory case...thought they do blueprint it!

As far as price goes something high quality like a fully built Goerend or its sort with all of the billet goodies and a best quality converter will cost just short of 8000 bucks.
The Ultimate is competitive price wise (believe it or not) with any of the big names....Yet in terms of pure componentry and brute strength there is no comparison.

You can not buy the strength of the Ultimate anywhere but at Ultimate...At any price!

I have to add that you will not find a nicer guy than Opie.
He posts here and if you need some more technical answeres he's you guy!

I assume the custom transfer case input shaft (which is bigger than stock) was required to fit the larger output shaft from the tranny?
