Turns out it's the turbo
Turns out my recent troubles is my turbo going out. I was glad to find out it wasn't anything to do with the transmission. Since my engine only has 57k on it they said it should be covered by the warranty. Question is how does a turbo start going bad and by chance if it isn't covered by warranty what is a good replacement choice. I feel that an aftermarket one is much cheaper than the stock replacement one from the dealer since they compared the cost to a tranny. I know a couple of diesel mechanics that work for a trucking company so getting the labor would be no problem.
I've looked at an industrial injection phat shaft 62/12/65. Would this be a good replacement for the stocker? And if so what can I expect from a turbo like this? I don't know when I'll get around to doing anything else to the truck such as injectors. Thanks for your input.

I went with the d-tech 62/65/12 and I really like it. Spools fast, cooler EGT's, actually a much better turbo overall. Excellent stock replacement, it bolts right up without any problems, easy job to do.

If you are under 100k I'm sure that cummins will replace the stocker. The tricky part is to get a dealer to just let you pay the diference and upgrade the turbo instead of just replacing stock.

Winner winner chicken dinner!
As stated have the dealer just replace the stocker. If anything down the road you have a nice new stocker on top and you can add something a little bit larger below and have a cheap reliable set of twins. No reason the dealer shouldnt replace it under warranty, turbo is covered by the factory 100K.

It's covered by the warranty and they're supposed to have it in tomorrow morning. I am thinking about going back to the stock air filter unit.
