Turbo surge/bark

Turbo surge/bark
Hey guys I just recently put on a 63mm holset cheetah turbo. I love the turbo and the sound but the problem I'm having is when my truck shifts from 3-4th under a load ie merging on the highway or pulling my trailer, the turbo will "bark" or surge. What can I do to stop this from happening? Thanks

Do you have an aftermarket converter? Are you finding this more in tow haul?
If yes to either above the shift from 3-4 with tow haul is a locked shift and it causes a large rpm drop, this will cause bark. Nice thing about an 06 is you can lock out OD, get up to speed let off the throttle then engage your OD under little to no load then drive it like normal. Bark is bad, drive around it a little or install a BOV.

If the turbo is brand new give it some miles, you will get used to driving it and it will loosen up. A BOV is a good solution, but they aren't cheap and can be a PIA to get dialed in. A charger that size shouldn't need a BOV, it should be pretty easy to get used too and make some minor changes in tow haul. Good luck whatever you decide.

Once a month check trubo shaft play side to side but for sure front to back play.If the problem persists it will fly apart in time then instead of a rebuild you buy new one.just scattered a 66 turbo and intercooler may have to pull the head too.Stay ahead of it.Be safe
