I agree with you a 100%.The 65 wheel is going to give much quicker spool up,especially being he has an automatic.I have ran both the 65 and 71 in the 62 size and the 65 is by far the better choice for a lightly modified daily driver.

BTW, how long do these last? Do they have to be rebuilt every couple of years or do they last a long time?

They will last a long time if your not pushing them to there limits on a daily basis.

Htt 62/12

I have a HTT 62/12 on my 03 which has the mechanical wastegate. It is a great turbo for what I do which is tow. I wish the 62/13 SS had been available when I decided to upgrade, but have no complaints with what I have. Nice aspect of HTT if you wish to upgrade they can take the turbo you purchased from them and for a nominal fee upgrade it. Definitely a lot cheaper than another turbo.

I wouldn't call it a "nominal" fee... a housing swap isn't a huge deal, but if you're wanting a compressor or turbine change, the cost is going to be close to a new turbo... often better to sell yours and buy the one you want, you'll get more for it that way.

I know Industrial is like this, and I can only assume HTT is too. The problem is that they can't sell a used turbo, you can. I'm not condeming them for it, I'm just saying you're not going to go from a 65mm turbine to a 71mm turbine for a couple hundred bucks.

In most cases the smaller the wheel number the quicker they are going to respond. Now the smaller the number usually you are going to give up some top end flow. You will have two wheels and an exhaust housing. That is the numbers you will most likely see. The first one is usually the compressor side, and the second number is the size of the exhaust housing.

That truck is awesome looking. I have the 62/71/13ss. I have been so happy with it, running the 4.4 w/all my mods. But it got really hot for a few days (up to 113* while parked outside my bro's shop). The truck smokes so much more in the heat I loaded the regular REVO. With the regular REVO, it takes longer than I would like to boost.

If you are going to run lower settings I would get the 65 wheel. If you wanna really play, get the 71 wheel.

I have to admit I have not towed w/the 71. Unless I am mistaken, towing w/the 71 will be better on the drive pressure side and maybe the EGT side. And of course it will take a second (guess?) slower to spool.

I do have a manual trans, so this may be apples to oranges.

Either way you will be happy.

Ya know choosing a turbo isn't easy it took me a month or more to finally decide & for me it was decided by a flip of a coin, I didn't want to go too big because my final out come would be a decent single for now and later stuff a primary under it
here's my rig she's also never ending

Awsome looking rig! I wanted to lift mine when I first got it, but at that time there were no lift kits for the 2WD CTD Mega Cabs. I'm glad though because I love the fact that this thing fits in my garage with room to spare. I love the look of these long trucks lifted, they just look mean!

Yes, I am in the process of lowing it. I have a 1.5" leveling kit in the front, but the rear still sticks up a little. I will try the lowering shackles in the rear which should level it. I think if I put the stock spacers back in the front then it will go back to being too high in the rear because the lowering shackles only give you about 1" to 1 1/2" drop. So, I will really only be lowering the rear. I still tow, so I hope that I can still use airbags (which I don't have yet)with the shackles.
