Turbo experts, can I keep my wastegate clamped off???

I have an HTB2 62/12 turbo on my 07 Ram. I have not been able to get more than 35 psi out of this thing no matter what combo of boxes I have on the truck. It was suggested for me to clamp off the hose to the WG and see if I get more boost. Well, I did it and I hit almost 40psi today with my Predator/Puck combo on the moderate setting. Before clamping it off I got a max of 31-32psi. Now, I made a hard pull but if I would have stayed in it longer I think the boost would have risen more but I doubt it would have gone above 45psi. I know that 40-45psi won't hurt the turbo but would there be any drawbacks to keeping the hose clamped off????
I do have a Quad boost fooler on the truck BTW....

I just put on an aurora 5k and my electronic wastegate is hanging there until the bypass plug gets here from ATS. I can hit 50 psi on wot runs.. If it doesn't throw codes I would think your doing just about the same as me????

OK! I'll act like you didn't respond.......

Like you, I'm thinking that as long as I'm not throwing codes I should be OK. I assume my wastegate is stuck open but it's such a pain pulling turbos on these things that if I can leave it clamped closed with no drawbacks then it's fine with me...

You may want to pm or call Tim, I drive him nuts with any questions I have. But I know I get the right answer from a guy who knows his stuff. And Im not even gonna say cause I dont even know that the cummings has a turbo charger .

But seriously my only concer would be what happens when you get on it and for some reason need to get out of it real quick? May make your turbo bark pretty good. But once again I have no clue.

Well, the truck runs much better now that it is actually making some boost from the start. I understand the concern with barking the turbo but I have never barked this HTB2. The stock turbo, however, was very easy to bark.

Chris, it sounds like you should figure out why that 'charger is only making 35psi max... that can't be right!

I mean, you're blowing smoke, right?
So, you should have plenty of TIP to drive the compessor...

Is the wastegate on your HTB2 fully mechanical, or a hybrid like the stock Holset was? Wondering if the ECM is trying to adjust the duty cycle of a WG solenoid that isn't there?

Well, first off my name isn't Chris!!

The wastegate is mechanical. When we installed it on the 03 we really had to force it over the studs and the wastegate got dented a little bit. I had the same problem when I put it on the 07. Somehow it may have gotten damaged this time. With my current stack it does smoke some when I give it some pedal, even if it's not a lot. It spools up kind of slowly too. It definitely spools quicker now with the hose clamped off.

My name is Rumplestilskin BTW.......

Sorry!

I glanced at your screen name and thought you were Dodgezilla04 up in Washington

Does sound like your WG might be a problem though...
