Turbo Bark while towing with aftermarket trans
Mornin, DTR...
The other day I was towin, not too heavy, truck and trailer was probably 13K together, I noticed when I was steady on the throttle from a dead stop, when the tranny shifted, I would hear some turbo bark from the hard shifts. I would have to anticipate the shift and let off the throttle so it would not bark...
Any input? It's an ATS stage 4... I was on the tow setting on my edge, probably 40% on the MP8, so I was not trying to kill it...
TIA!!

Talk about violent... I was 'checking my acceleration', and when that lockup hit, I looked in the mirror to see if my turbo was on the road...

one thing you might want to try if it barks badly when it shifts into overdrive is put a manual lockup switch in and run it up to drive hit the lockup and then push the tow/haul button to allow it to go into overdrive. the bark is coming from the convertor locking up so if it shifts with it locked no bark.

Mine does the same thing... if I'm towing, specially with Smarty Beta 4.3, I'll keep OD lockout until I hit 65 ish, then hit OD button, and she will shift without turbo bark

With a stock tranny and TC you will not bark your turbo. I have pulled with my new tranny and aftermarket turbo. I don't have any turbo bark. It's basically where my turbo builds boost at due to the lower drive pressure 71 turbine wheel. I'll keep my fingers crossed it dosen't start.

My Excursion does this as well. When in the throttle hard, I also have to check the road behind me for the compressor wheel...
I guess my tranny doesn't slip enough...

My twins bark when really getting on it. It's the torque converter lock up and 3-4 shift. Using the lockout overdrive button until a certain speed/rpm range eliminates the bark. Just need to remember to do this.

The T/C lock up is insane for the poor stock turbo.. Someday I'm sure I'm goin to see it bouncing down the road. Till then I'm keepin the hammer down
