Turbo Air Guide
Happy Holidays everyone,
Santa was good to me this year and he brought me a TAG III. I was wondering if there was anything I should know about installing it other than the directions that came with it. I do have an AFE Torque Tube.
Thanks Jamie

It fits better with the silencer ring installed. I did not try it without it but have heard that it fits much better with it. I like mine, but there are alot of mixed emotions out there on the TAG's.

Kyle,
I've got a HTB2 turbo on my truck and am getting quite a bit of surging. I was wondering if you, or anybody, could tell me if installing a TAG would help or solve this problem. spool-up is already faster than a stock turbo, and noise is not excessive.

Kyle, should I use the stock silencer ring. If so should I use the old retainer ring or get a new one. my stock retainer ring is a little bent/warped from the initial removal.
thanks Jamie

If you are using the original TAG, then we recommend you definately leave the silencer ring in place. With the TAG-III it makes very little difference if the ring is installed or not.

OK guys, I installed the TAGIII and now during normal to moderate acceleration, there is a howling noise that is definitly new. The only thing I did different from the directions is I positioned the TAGIII about 1/4" deep into the torque tube instead of flush with the edge of the torque tube elbow. I think the TAGIII is still tight against the housing of the turbo, and the elbow doesn't come into contact with the oil filter. All I can think of is the Torque tube should not come into physical contact with the metal of the turbo housing, or howl noise is expected. It only happens at a certain rpm and then tapers off.
any thoughts anyone.
thanks Jamie

OK latest update,
I consulted with Dave at Diesel Power Products (who was extremely helpful). We decided to change out the AFE PG7 drop in filter b/c I probably over oiled it while I had it out. Reinstalled a stock paper filter. I also made sure the TAGIII was correctly positioned. The howling noise is 95% gone and the truck responds better by the "seat of the pants scale". The turbo whistle is probably 45% more quiet now (which is fine by me). Although it might be too soon to tell, I have noticed improved fuel mileage (unloaded) by approx. .6-1mpg, based on one tank full so far.
PS. I also ordered a Scotty Ram Air III system from Diesel Power Products during all of this.
AFE PG7 drop in is now for sale!!
Thanks for your help Dave at Diesel Power Products
