Tuning for a big turbo?
Is there anything that needs to be done to tune for a large turbo? I just ordered a silver bullet, and Im looking for any tips or tricks to help setup everything? What else is there to do other than making sure your rail pressures are up to par, and putting as much fuel as you can to it? I dont know if Im even asking the right questions, but hopefully someone can chime in! Thanks Joel

A dyno will help the best . I see you have a TST and MP8. They are about the hardest to get tuned in without a dyno. There are so many settings on each one you have a 1000 different setting and everyones truck is different. To light a big turbo you will need fuel and to make big numbers you need to keep rail pressure up. You have a great start with what you have. I personally run a Smarty and a pressure box. It takes all the guessing out. 9 Settings and try all 9 and see what works the best for what you want.

Additional fuel (Stage 2,3, or dual Cp3's) would allow you to turn up the TST and would help tremendously. You may want to add a smarty to the mix if you upgrade you cp3. II sets the wastegate to 55psi, and with your mods you might make that much boost depending on elevation and temperature. Good luck, let us know how you like it.

your mp8 should help with rail pressure issues. from what ive seen injectors do help light up a big turbo really well. I would say add a downloader to what you have like a smarty and you should be good to go. a member on here put down 526 with an 03 running a silver bullet, tst, ats/ppe downloader. that was on a dynojet with a stock fuel system/cp3/injectors. so that gives you an idea of what dyno numbers can be made

Will the stock injectors let me run the tst up higer if I run a modded pump? I do have plans for a smarty, but it wont be for a while. I was thinking about adjusting the wastegate to around 45 since, i dont have any studs yet!
PS. Is your ofe holding your stack?

With the mods in my signature, stock cp3 and injectors I dyno'd over 580hp last year. With the new Smarty software it is faster on the track, did not have a chance to dyno yet.
I agree that a downloader (Smarty) will help get to the optimum power. The TST and EZ on mine do ok, but with the Smarty I can get 50hp more and shave .5 seconds off 1/4 ETs.

So a Smarty would be a better then a small set of sticks? I want to see how far a I can go on a stock CP3.
The 580 was with the TST EZ stack then?

5-2 03 twins program and 50% on the MP-8 as a starting point. Auto 15 or 18 timing on the TST.
That will start you at 550 hp or so. Tune from there. 5-3, 6-2, 6-3 etc.

Yah thats what I was thinking. Does anyone know how a preditor stacks up to a Smarty? Ive got a buddy with a Smarty so I could try that, but for half the money the preditor looks good!

With just TST/EZ I think 525hp was the best I dyno'd. Normally had a downloader on, either the BDTD w/CL or the Smarty for the last year plus.

This past weekend, I hit 558 hp / 994 ft-lbs on Dunbar's dyno. I have a SPS66 turbo, and the best run was Smarty Beta 4.4 #8, TS MP-8 100%, TST 3/1...still on stock cp3 and sticks.
It seems that beta 4.2 and 4.3 perform slightly better if you have access to them, and around 90 hp sticks seem to make a huge difference with this combo.
