Tuner / Programmer

Tuner / Programmer
In the not too distant future, I want to put on a programmer / tuner. I know that most on here are for the Smarty, but I'm not sure. Most folks I know have a Bully Dog or Edge. Some on Dodge, and Duramax. My rig is stock, I will be doing a muffler delete, but that will probably be about it. Is on-the-fly tuning a big deal? Can Smarty do that? I will be adding gauges, but if I went with Edge or Bully Dog, I could use their monitor. I am NOT looking to make huge power #'s....just make my truck a little better. A 5th wheel camper is in the near future, and I pull moderate loads with a gooseneck now. One more thing, will Smarty adjust for tire size?
Thanks in advance.

EFI live is the new trick, don't believe it is "change on the fly" I just read that Edge filed for protection from bankruptcy, the government is putting the screw`s to some of these companies.

smarty does adjust for tire size.
If you want the electronic all in one screen with guages, get the bully dog not the edge. B-dogs tunes are better.
If you don't really want all that much power, just run better, the smarty jr is your best bet. Use the money saved for good gauges.
Tuning on the fly sounds great, but is really not all that. Your right foot is the best tuner of all.

I read about the Smarty and using it to adjust timing and other things. That sounds cool, but does it have preset stuff as well? Or am I going to have to adjust lots of parameters?

EFI live is now on the fly. 5 stages and all 5 stages of your choice. Efi partners up with a 5 position switch and now I think edge from what I seen on their website. But EFI live has tunes only for 06 and up or its 07 and up.

I don't know much about bullydog on cummins. I have only ran them on a DIRTYMAX.
Always look into a 5 or 6 postion chip. where you can have 5-6 stages of power.
Banks has the 6 gun but they are a pain to wire in. Takes a lot of work. But banks doesn't smoke and its not a huge increase of power. ITs ok but doesn't impress me.
I think a edge could be ok if you don't abuse it. I know a lot of trucks running edge stock with no problems. But these are older guys that respect their truck. I know a lot of kids that run them and tear trannys and injectors up.
