I got the Quad box std. (100 hp) & stock 48re. I don't race, burn out, or leave hard at the light. I like the hp AFTER I'm already rolling 25-30 mph.
I also tow a 5,000# tt about 6-8 times/year. No more hp mods, this is it.

Will the 48re do OK with proper maint. or am I in need of TC & valve body?

youll probably be fine as long as you dont beat the hell out of it. Just turn down the chip when you tow and dont race off the line when hauling any weight. Common sense will make the trans last alot longer.

I would at least get a new VB. I recommend calling up Stefan at DTT. His VB is holding FAR more power than it should in my 47re.

I agree the valve body is a good idea. ON my truck with just the Quad box on the 100 HP setting and no injectors the trans held pretty good. Im now running on the 30 HP setting with the injectors and its about the same. I am goin to get my valve body done soon though. I cant afford to do the whole trans right now because my girl wants to get married and thats suckin all my cash out of my pockets for now. Oh well it will all be over in August then I can go back to puttin all my bucks into the truck.

As long as you don't abuse it the transmission will live a long life. Abuse is not just drag racing, but also not doing proper maintenance as well as being very aggressive with large loads.

We have thousands of test miles logged on stock trannies with no failures. My personal truck makes in the high 48x's and it has a stock tranny, but I am easy on it. It is a 06 with 20k on the clock so far. It also seems to get all the test stuff!
