Tranny is toast.

Ok I knew it was going to happen sooner or later. Yesterday my tranny or TC started slipping pretty bad, it will now not move in drive. The motor will just rev up. There is no bad noises, just the smell of what I think is burnt clutchs. It will move just enough to move it around in reverse though. What do yall think it is?

Thanks, Brad

Had the same thing happen about this time last year. Went to leave one morning and the truck would barely move. It was with only 14,000 miles so Dodge towed it in. They replaced the entire valve body. Said they replaced some sensors first but that didn't work so the entire valve body was replaced. I have put 25,000 miles on it since then so I believe the problem was fixed.

a lock up device is not a good idea for a stock transmission, mystery switches are very damaging if used improperly

Yea that would be nice if were just the valve body. But I am thinkinf it is something more. I am not going to mess with trying to get fixed under warranty. I know I have to pay to play. And I had might as welll go ahead and fix it with some better parts. I am probably going to go with either Goerend or HTS. Anyone else have any ideas on how bad the damage is?

Well I cant tell you how many times this has happened to me,front clutches are notorious for going out in 48s,If your fluid is fried, its not a valve body fix,if it wont go forward or backwards, its most likely the front clutch, not hugely expensive to fix,but if your going to keep playing, you misewell upgrade, give dusty a call, hell take care of you.

I just got off the phone with him. I think I am going to go with his built tranny minus the input shaft. The price of the shaft really jumps the total on up there. I am also going to get a TC and flexplate. I like the way he works his core exchange better than other venders. He said he could ship everything out to me in a couple of days if I wanted. Although I am going to out of town on bussiness for the next few weeks. So I will just wait until I get back.

I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE INPUT SHAFT!!!! If you do and brake stalls or "preloading" of your trans you take a HIGH risk of breaking that thing!!!!

I have been running the switch for a while now with no problems. I am pretty sure it was the Smarty with the moderate TQ managment that did the trick. Don't get me wrong, I love that thing. The power is awsome with it. That is the reason I am going with a built tranny, and not just fixing my stocker.

Good choice in calling Dusty, great guy, builds a wicked transmission and will back his work up.

If you have never seen an input shaft, then you might think you won't need one. Put an extra $600 in your pocket when you visit HTS, and think about how much power goes through that shaft, look at the factory input shaft.

My guess is you will be saying "billet, billet" faster than these trucks can go!

Have fun...

Tell dusty to send you pictures of what torque does to input shafts, weve got a few there,i broke a billet one a few months ago, billet is cheap insurance cause when they break it takes the pump and converter with it.
