Which Tranny Line Do I Install Temp Sending Unit

I am trying to figure out which tranny line do I mount the block for the temp sending unit made by autometer. I am picking it up today on the way home. I have read that the best place to put it is in the outgoing line (suppose to be the hottest). I noticed there is 2 line (of course) on the left side one towards the front and one towards the rear. Is it marked which one is the outlet or does any body know ? "HELP" Also does anybody else have thiers mounted there and how are your readings. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance......

The line that comes out of the front of the transmission, closest to the engine, and runs directly to the heat exchanger, is the one you want to tap.

I have my temp gauge there, and during normal driving, it stays at or below 140°F. This morning, in 40 minutes of bumper-to-bumper traffic, it got up to about 180°F. As soon as you get moving, and the TC locks, the temp drops pretty quickly down to 140°F again.

How exactly are you planning on installing the 1/8" NPT sending unit that comes with the Autometer gauge into the cooler line?

I got my Autometer gauges from Genos and that had the sending unit with it . So I called Autometer after I read something somewhere about them haveing a block that goes on the tranny line and they do. They have 1 for 5/16 and 1 for 3/8 and you screw the sending unit right to it. the part # for the 3/8 is 2286 and the 5/16 is 2287. It was only about $40.00. I figured that would be better than putting it in a test port or buying the kit from Mass diesiel for $80.00. So now that I know which line is the hot one I will finish my gauge installation this weekend. Thank you for the info.

I went ahead and bought the line from mass diesel, and i recieved it today. The lines are east to install so went the easy way out. They were very easy to deal with and very hepful on the phone. So i guess my 2 cents is to go with the line from mass.
