Tranny build questions???

Id like to do some upgrades to my tranny and have wanted to for a while but i dont have a ton of cash to spend. Ive been wanting to do a converter, valve body, and an input shaft but it doesnt seem like the cash flow will let me anytime soon. so i was thinking about just doin a transgo shift kit for now. but my question is can i put it in without pulling my tranny out? what are the benefits of putting it in with the tranny pulled out compaired to with it in the truck?

Yes you can, but you would be better served just popping for a good valve body and swapping that in. Order one up from us or Dave Goerend direct. It will definitely help keep things alive a little longer, and you can use it with your full build in the future.

Just did a Trans-Go kit last week and installed a B&M trans pan. It is a fairly easy install. You do not have to remove the transmission to do the Trans-Go install. Took me a couple hrs to do. Just make sure you have a clean enviroment and just go over the steps carefully and make sure you got everything covered. Buying a valve body already done will cost a little more but like said above if you do a built trans down the road they can reuse.

What kind of difference can you feel with the transgo? Im deffinately looking for firmer shifts and reduced slippage. Also What kind of power do you guys think the tranny could hadle with just the transgo? i drive fairly easy with just the occasional race or play time, and usually keep the pretator on performance/economy 100hp setting for the most part (can it handle the higher settings?). Money is just tight right now and im trying to make my tranny last till i can do it right.

with the Trans-Go I notice a lot firmer shift into each gear. It is not a bone jaring shift but a nice firm one. I also got rid of my shuttle shift between 2-3 with the kit. Which was the main thing I noticed. As for slippage I never noticed anybefore but I don't really abuse it that much. Most I have put on my truck is about 150HP with a Quadzilla or a Diablo Sport Downloader. Like you I want to do a full build but lack the funds just yet to really play like I want, but for the money it is worth it if you do your own install.

Would just a whole new valve body benefit me much without a converter and the other internals? and what is better about a completely new valve body compaired to a stock one with a shift kit? thanks

Yes much more line pressure would be availabel. Think of it like a manual you have two things that determine the amount of slippage clutch size/efficiency and the pressure to clamp the two. The valve body helps bring more power getting the most of the stock converter, even being as inefficent as it is. The valve body makes lockup firmer due to the lack off slipping.
