Tranny billet goodies 4 race only ?

Accumulating all my tranny parts for my builder to install so far I have a Billet TC , input shaft, output shaft, dual kick down servo, accumulator piston & I would like to also have the billet front drum but with that part most people say that it's used for race applications only
My question is with race applications will the tranny have more longevity if you were not always boost launching in 4wheel drive ? because my belief as a machinist billet parts rule over OEM hence go big or go home
can any one comment on having that billet front drum ?
the write up on the part I'm interested on says it's ideal for street use with the capacity of adding more clutch discs which adds clamping force

I think it has something to do with heat buildup
all the top builders use billet converters.

When I talked to Dave Goerend about if I needed a front drum or not, he said it was important if you plan on turning your engine more that 4K rpm. He said that it spins at twice engine speed and the stock piece could come apart at higher rpms causing some serious damage and possibly injure someone. The billet piece would handle the higher revs but it's installation could cause a slight leak from the trans and leave oil spots on your driveway. I didn't plan on turning more than 4K in my 03 so I didn't get it. I will probably get a transmission for my 06 and will probably get it just to have it there if needed.

I have billet front drums in both of my trucks. The 02 has about 130,000 miles and almost 1600 1/4 mile passes on the pickup since I had the billet drum put in.

The issues I have seen with people using the billet front drum comes from people not correctly modifing the valve body for it. The fluid flow needs to be change because of the larger volumn of the billet front drum. Both of the ones in my trucks are Intelligent Engineering (Opie's) ones.

Just FYI

The billet drum holds an additional friction from 4 to 6 in the 47's and 5 to 6 in the 48's which can also be done with the stock front drum in the 48's only. BUT the apply pistion is much larger on the billet drum, 18 sq in vs 25 on the billet. That's rough numbers off the top but the specs are available. Now those 7 +/- sq inches add a lot of extra holding force on the direct clutch pack. Yes there is a pressure ratio involved to how much the holding or application force is increased and how the VB is set up has a lot to do with it but you get the idea. Bottom line, over 600 HP or if towing
14k plus on a regular basis even with few power mods is definatly recommened.

ray, I had to get 20 thousandths cut off a disk to add an additional to the rear pack in my 48 re, but it fit, and is doing its job. so I got an extra in the front pack and the rear pack.
