TOYO OpenCountry AT's 285/75/17

I bought a set of 285/70/17 TOYO Open Country AT's in October of 05. They now have 15605 miles on them and are worn out. Every mile on these tires are on road with the majority on highway. I won't buy another set of these, they are soft and wear incredibly fast. They do have good wet traction and are quite but they wear fast. Maybe on a no torque gasoline truck they would be ok but my diesel ate them for breakfast.

They are supposed to have a warranty, but I am not interested in another set of Toyos. I have new set of 285/70/17 Goodyear Pro Grade Silent Armors.

Did you get the d or E rated, you are the first I've heard of to wear a set out that fast? I'm on my third set, and I've had three diff sizes that all lasted great! I've put over 15000 miles on each set spinning them ALL THE TIME! You got lemons! Nobody is harder on tires than I am

Nittos are garbage, I had a 305/55/20 set. Of course I spun those alot too People say Toyos and Nittos are made by the same company, if this is true the Nittos are their junk line and the Toyos are their Cadis.

When I bought these there were no E rated 285/70/17's available. If you were spinning these as you say you might have gotten 15001 miles at the best. I don't spin the tires because I really don't care to waste hard earned money by leaving it on the pavement. The chances of getting 4 tires that are all lemons is astronomically small.

I deleted my message. I should probably be more awake when reading through the posts - it was a nightmare two weeks at work.

Now, back on topic. Are the 75's taller?

I'm with you for sure. I had mine on less than 8K and they were less than 5k from being toast. I didn't spin them, nor did I tow heavy. The main reason I got rid of them was because they were pathetic offroad and in the short time I had them, I managed to pick up 3 nails. Coincidence? I doubt it.

Thumbs down

I am going to have to agree with the majority. As my TOYOS are wearing way to fast. Warranty to 40k miles, but i know my tire dealer will just prorate them, and its not that I care about the warranty, just the hassles of having to go and replace them and deal with it. Time IS MONEY for me. Waiting around a tire shop and having to shop new tires cost me money in ways than one. After repliing to this thread I went out and checked my tires, heck I might be lucky to get 35k miles out of them.

285/70 = 32.8"

285/75 = 33.8

Also 305/70/17 are 33.8", but a little wider than 285/75/17.

With a rig this heavy,I don't trust tires after 35-40,000 miles. My Bridgestone A/T blewout @ 37,000 miles on my old '99. 19.5's would be different.

Nope, I spin them all the time and I'll get way more than 15k out of them(of course my tread is over 11" wide too). Maybe you should buy an E rated tire since that's what these trucks are designed to have in the first place. A D rated tire will run at warmer temps due to wall flex and it will wear faster due to heat. Tires are a wear item, and honestly I have fun with and I work out of my truck, so I won't hesitate to buy a new set every year, just out of boredom. I've had just about every tire mentioned here. BFG A/Ts, Nittos and Procomp M/Ts, my truck ate up. All being equal ON MY TRUCK Toyos are far superior. That said, I'm going to try a set of Cooper STT 35/12.50/20s next, I'll be able to report how they stand up to true abuse, not HWY miles soon.
