The outlook can be used as a stand alone unit, or it can be used with the triple dog, or it can be used with other programmers, but you can only change levels on the fly if used with the triple dog. The outlook even has a menu to configure it to different vehicles. That is how it works on my 06, you should call them and find out if the same applies to your 07.
On edit: The only time my outlook remains blank is when it is not plugged into the OBD port. As soon as it is plugged back in after programming it works. Sometimes I have to reselect the vehicle. You need to call them and make sure you have the right version of outlook for your or your buddies truck.

whats funny is i figured level 1 and 2 would yield the best fuel economy but i just switched to level 7 and picked up 5mpg.. i was on avg 13.2-14 max avg.. now i am sitting on 18.6 and 19-20 highway.. the truck drives like its lost 2k lbs compared to level 2 which i was on for a couple weeks..

please explain.. i know its not dead accurate but if you know what the overhead was reading every week and then you swap modes from 2-7 and it reads 5mpg higher regardless if it was right on 13mpg or 18mpg it still went up correct??

The overhead computer relies on information from sensors that also get input from the main ECM. A programmer sometimes changes the signals from some of these sensors causing erroneous readings in the overhead.

Reset the odometer and on the next fill-up, divide the number of miles driven by the gallons used. But, Dodge has one more curve to throw at you, it's time consuming to fill our trucks to the same point each time unless you do the tank vent mod. In lew of that, you have to trickle fuel into the tank until it's completely full. Most trucks take 2+ gallons after the nozzle clicks off the first time.

The number 1 software is in regards to the vp44 smarty not the common rail smarty
software 1 is the fuel saver program for the 98.5-02 trucks
Software 1 is fine for the CR trucks
