tow hooks?

any recomendations for front mounted tow hooks? Oh, and i posted a while ago about which tuner/chip to get. everyone seemed to think the diablo predator/puck stack was the way to go (I wanted something that wasnt too much for the stock tranny). still think its a good buy?

Do you have the brackets for mounting the tow hooks? I have two sets of the factory hooks in my garage....

The Predator will need to be on the lower settings if you are worried about your stock trans....

i believe I have the mounting brackets. there is a removable plastic cover on bumper above the license plate (one cover on the left and right side). behind the cover there is a plate, that is mounted to the frame. the plate has 4 holes in it, 2 vertical ones on the left and right side. does that sound right?

about the tranny, if I found a 48, would that be a decent upgrade? and how much do those usually run?

I wouldnt put predator/puck stack on a stock tranny. Just my opinion, but if you are concerned about your tranny, I wouldnt do it.

You can keep it on the lower setting and not worry too much. Do you have the 47re or the 48? Doesnt take much to wreck the 47re in short order.

If you are thinking about tow hooks, PM XLR8R about tow hook extenders. They work really well, and set the hooks off. Not a bad price, either.

Zilla how much will you let a set of them go for? I bought mine and whoever had the truck before me removed my factory hooks (can still see an outline) and the plastic covers were left in the cab behind the back seat.

Factory tow hooks are worthless unless you have a small strap. Then you have to worry about the strap breaking. Have a set made. The extenders look like they should work. I have 60.00 in the ones I made and they have been pulled many a time by D-6 Cats and are still working fine. I have pics in my profile.

PM sent.....

The average guy out here is not trying to pull a huge bulldozer so the factory hooks are fine for a normal application. I never used mine once so I pulled them off my 03 and the 07 to put the grillguard on. I haven't missed them once....

I guess I'm not average then. I broke a factory hook in the first week I had the truck. Most of these trucks never leave the highway and the factory hooks would be fine. I'm in mud every day and tend to need a pull from a Cat from time to time. So I want something dependable that wont break. When a 1" winch line and an 80lb. tail chain are sent flying through the air, it makes a big mark on what ever it hits.

I used wallace forge ridgid mount ( weld On ) hooks PN # H-51-A welded to 5/8" steel plate. Drilled the holes in the plate before I welded on the hooks. You should have a set of four holes on the right and left side where the hooks get mounted. Souldnt be any plastic covering the holes.

Our tow hook Xtenders keep the bumper finish intact, make great footsteps for hovering over the CTD engine bay and double as "curb feelers" as needed!

You're right, Brent- but I have to admit my favorite part about the set on the '05 is wrenching under the hood... no more need to step on the bumper or smash the condenser fins with your toe!
