torque tube, silencer ring, air filter, muffler and or full exhaust?
Are these mods done for performance or just to here the turbo?
All of the threads I have read all talk about sound, but no one states anything about performance, mpg or hp.
Seems like alot of $$ to hear the whine JMHO. Could you guys let me know whats going on with your trucks and these mods?
thanks,
Mike

The silencer ring is done just so we can hear the sweet sound of the turbo. For those of you that still have a turbo that came with the ring, that is.
The other items on your list will keep EGTs down and all of them probably give a bit more power but nothing that you can really feel. If you intend to run a fueling box, these things will all help you get the most out of it...

So im assuming that you guys are talking about the silencer ring removal.
What about the cost vs. benefit of a torque tube and/or air filter set up? Is this also just for sound, with minimal performance. Nobody said anything about exhaust.
I guess what i am trying to get at is, if I dont really care about sounding good (actually I do, but am just too cheap to spend the money) These mods will really not have any performance gains except lower egts. Is it the exhaust that gives the lower egts or the intake or the combo?

Free flowing intake and exhaust both contribute to lowering your temps. Some say they feel a power gain from their torque tubes or their exhaust but I never did. I did see my temps go down with those two mods...

Well next Saturday is Dyno Day for us in N. Texas. My truck was dyno'd last July 05......totally bone stock...at 280hp/528tq.
Since that time the only modifications that could have an effect on the new dyno numbers would be a 30'' magnaflow exhaust with kitty delete and AFE stage 2. So hopefully I can answer the question if a change of air and exhaust only has any effect on the numbers. Im not sure if the dyno will be the same type though. It was a dynojet last July.

For the performance side of things, most people comment on they can feel a faster spool up, not so much lag as there is in stock form... Is it hp? mmmm maybe but not much, it's just letting everything flow more free with no restriction...

i removed my ring, built my own bhaf set up, and dumped the exhaust behind my cat all for less than 200 bucks... well worth it in sound and alittle performance to boot... spools quicker, i have no gauges yet, so i cant comment on egt's. Its a loud SOB now and the turbo whistle is priceless with the bhaf... really makes it sounds nice! Im stock as far as programmers go... I too want to take it to the dyno and see how much I gained just freeing up the intake and exhuast...

I Have Done The Bhaf With A Cat Delete, Mbrp Cool Duals, silencer Ring Removed, and Homemade Torque Tube. My 05 With A 6 Spd Dynoed At 305hp, 539tq, With No Chip Or Programer. I Have Maybe $500 In All My Mods Right Now, And Most Of That Was For The Exhaust.

Well the numbers are in. July 23, 2005, I dyno'd my totally factory stock truck at 280hp/528tq in 105 degree heat on a dynojet dyno at Lewisville Dyno Day Event in overdrive.
The week prior on July 18, 2005 at a different Dynojet it was at 264/501 in 3rd gear. (tow haul button engaged)
Today, April 1st, 2006.......on a Mustang dyno at Emory, TX Dyno Day it was 320hp/771tq with the AFE stage 2 and Magnaflow exhaust (kitty delete). I don't know if the Rokktech sensor could have changed anything or not. This run was in 3rd gear with the tow haul engaged. Temp was around 80 degrees and humid and it started raining a little while afterward.
So that was a gain of 40 hp and 243 torque with air and exhaust upgrades only. I don't know what other factors could be playing into it. I was hoping for 300hp and was surprized to see it go above it. I know the 2 other runs on the same dyno today were real low when dyno'd in 4th gear. The 3rd gear run made a big big difference on the Mustang Dyno.
