Tonneau cover = +2 MPG !!!
I recently added an Undercover tonneau. I haven't run through a tankful yet to do the hand calculations, but the dreamometer (overhead console) has jumped to 16.5 when it never broke 15 before. When it read ~14.5 I was actually getting 16.25 hand calculated, so I may be getting around 18 now. Not bad for < 2000 miles on the engine, cold weather, and anti-gel winter diesel.
Add the crankshaft sensor and summer temps and I might hit 20 MPG in mixed driving!

It's what I consider to be the best tonneau cover on the market. Their website is:

I did a large amount of research, looked at sliding vs. folding vs. one-piece, etc. The Undercover is the best overall IMHO, AND costs less than many others (I paid $650). Installation was a breeze and it comes off in about one minute, less if you have a helper. Highly recommended.
The added MPG was a nice bonus, but is obviously not exclusive to this particular brand. Anything that prevents your bed from acting like a drag chute should give you the same results.

Could be break-in related, but it happened instantly. Break-in is a gradual thing, so I believe the cover and reduced drag have something to do with it.
Either way, I'll take the increased MPG no matter what the reason!

I will stick with my ARE, I keep about $20,000 in fishing gear when I am headed offshore and $5k in hunting stuff when its the season in there and prefer the HARD/heavy duty locking cover. I really didnt check too much on the MPG but am sure it is better with it. I put it on with about 15 miles on the truck.

I agree with Argo. The lockable (and invisible) storage space is important. I keep my whitewater kayaking equipment back there in the spring and summer, for example. That wouldn't work very well without a tailgate....

I added one to my truck (fiberglass) the day I bought it, three days later I drove across country from WA to VA via the southern route. I don't believe I saw much change in mpg. Not to say it can't happen, but I did'nt see any. 37k later the only noticeable change came from break in and adding my quad box.
