Tone Ring modification on an Auto - please help

So... I spent the last couple days reading about the tone ring modification. I would love to do this mod, I was under my truck changing the oil this afternoon and wanted to "do-it". I can't get the bolts loose, the motor just turns over.

I tried the tap the long ratchet trick, tried the 2 lb hammer trick & tried it with the belt still on the motor - no dice.

Any further tricks that I missed in the searches I ran and the last 90 minutes of reading?

TIA for the help!

I left the belt on and smacked the bolts hard about three times. The first two times it feels like you're just turning the motor over but the third hit breaks them loose. I don't think a regular hammer will work. Make sure you are hitting the bolts the right way too!

Take a big screw driver and put it on the crank sensor housing mount with the tip of it into the teeth of the tone ring, then use your ratchet and remove the bolts. Putting the bolts back in, I just used a 3# hammer and smacked a long ratchet or breaker bar handle about 3 times each.

Gee BigBob, we used the same "Torque wrench" to put ours back on!! The sad thing is that I have a brand new torque wrench in the tool box.......

I removed the inspection cover under the torque convertor and wedged a pry bar between the starter ring teeth and trans body. Did not damage any of the teeth. Did the reverse to tighten the bolts.

I used the GTX method. The inspection cover is right behind the oil pan and covers the torque convertor. I think it has 3-4 8mm bolts holding it on. I definately would not want to pry against the crank sensor or tone ring JMHO.
