For those with the Home Depot intake mod..
Do you have any issues with snow or rain getting sucked up into the filter box? I am thinking about the mod but I live in a climate that gets plenty of snow. Doesn't seem to be a worthwhile mod if it sucks snow up into it or I have to run with it blocked for 6 months out of the year because of that. Thanks!

I don't have a problem with snow here, never had a problem with rain back in the east coast. I just took a piece of wire screen mesh and taped it over the hole.

no problem w rain on mine....did get the filter a little wet doing 40mph 3' water....for normal driving no prob....no snow in az so cant advise on that, but would speculate that since snow doesnt splash nearly as much as water wouldnt worry....re you maintain the stock air intake location (cutout of airbox on passenger side) you cant get suction form the bottom of the HD Hose...

I'm looking at modifying the installation by using an Oatey 4" All PVC Snap In Drain (part #43569) instead of the closet flange (Lowes SKU 3875343569) It will eliminate the large flange but still give you a 3.75" ID. As soon as I get the airbox out, I'll take some pics as I do the deed. The grate is molded as part of the fitting AND if I don't like it I can always put the closet flange in!

No snow through the tube but plenty through the crappy air box design. Comes right through the seem between the box and the lid. Did this from day 1 before the mod.

Yeah I saw one that had a S.Steel great already part of it. It was a 3-4" drain fitting. I have read of a few people having some snow issues, but nothing too bad.

The one piece grate/fitting is what caught my attention. The grate will be at the top of the assembly in the box, not on the lower end.............OR you could put one on each end to really keep out the critters and the debris!

I run in a lot of deep snow and have always had trouble collapsing the stock filter set-up. With this mod I pull the down-pipe in the winter and have never had any filter probs since. My down-pipe is just stuffed into the flange all summer with a screw across the bottom and a zip-tie to hold in place.Easy as cutting the zip-tie to remove.

OK, as promised, here's the Oatey 4" All PVC Snap In Drain (part #43569)
Here'e a pic of the 3.999" hole I cut in the box with a fly cutter, sometimes called a circle cutter.
The Drain is a press fit for the time being and is pressed in from the top as shown
Very easy to do, no screws and the 2" stub that sticks thru the bottom slips right into 4" PVC so you can join the pieces permanently. Hope this helps.

I block mine off in the winter. Based on what I have noticed since install the HD CAI only makes a difference at high boost and upper rpm levels. So 95% of winter driving for me doesn't include this.
Its quite easy to put the plug in the end of the tube in the winter. I also plug my tube when driving on dirt roads. I forgot once and HOLY crap my air filter got plugged very quickly.
I also run a drain to keep critters out. It doesn't seem to effect the flow enough to worry about, at least with the stock turbo.. that might change when I put a new turbo in this spring.

Yikes.. two things that don't make sense to me.. K&N filters are junk at best, and why let hot enigne bay air into your intake?
