stud kits and or torqued heads

ok so what's the most psi that the stock heads can handle i have heard 52 and i've heard 60 but with the piers twins street setup which is 70 psi what do i need to do in order to keep from losing a piston? can a guy torque them or should they be studded or i saw something about going ported. what are the most cost friendly yet effective scenario's

I'm running ARP studs. I've hit 70 psi a few times with no problem but usually keep it between 60-65psi daily.

I don't know about the new one's, but on the 2nd gens, 50psi was considered the max. After that, studs and o-ringing.

Yep, I just used the ARP studs with a stock head gasket. I've been told that the 3rd gen head gasket are stronger than the previous generations.

If I remember correctly from the second gen forum we have the MLS head gasket and with studs torqued correctly we MAY be good to 70 psi. I'm pretty sure Piers is still doing ok at 70 after watching the smokey burnouts at Diesel Thunder in Spokane! Piers, Don M, you out there?

Do a search in the second gen forum. Lotsa' good reading on head gaskets and studs...

I tend to overkill things anyway, but when I can cough up the dough for twins I will yank the head, have it decked, run o-rings in it, a stock 3rd gen gasket, and studs. 70 psi should be no problem.

Buddy of mine on this board is running a set of twins and hits 70 with his 2nd gen on stock bolts, gasket, and o-rings.

wow he's a brave man i just don't wanna get the twins after waiting for a month and spending 5K and then have it ruin something because i wasn't prepared for it that would be ignorant of me and i would hope that if i didn't prepare appropriately then someone would run me down

3rd gen trucks are just fine with the stock gasket and ARP studs.

We have several out there running high power levels with this combo. No troubles at all. ARP studs will compliment the MLS gasket like no other. Their high ductility helps in this regard.

You can use o-rings with the stock or any other MLS gasket for that matter.

Ok. Quick question. Would a 3rd gen HG work on a 2nd gen truck?
