straight piping & air box mod

I'm looking for poor man modifications for my truck. I bought an Edge EZ and want to do exhaust and intake mods to aid in achieving better gas mileage. I live in Horicon, WI. I can't find anyone to do custom 4" exhaust bending to put a straight pipe on my '04 Ram. Does someone sell a bolt on straight pipe section with proper offset to replace the muffler ? I also want to do an intake enhancement without spending the money for a Scotty III. I was considering a true-flow foam filter and 4 inch hole in bottom of my stock air box. My local performance store said they did testing and good intake is the only way to lower temps and enhance performance and exhaust will do nothing but make it loud. Please advise. I am new to owning a diesel and do not want to wreck my engine. My main goal is to get better mileage. I drive 50% of time empty and 50% of time pulling 3 atv's on a snowmobile trailer. I have my Edge set to setting 2 because the manual said don't tow with it set any higher. Thanks in advance for any input you can give to a rookie like me...

Take out all of the silencing parts inside the tube between your airbox and turbo until it is a smooth, hollow pipe inside. You will have to break the vertica parts out. The horizontal vanes are actually a liner that will also come out. I also used a 1" hole saw and drilled out the bottom of my airbox inside each crosshatch. Line it with some very coarse foam to keep out snow and water. Turn up your EZ. I don't care what your book says. My truck has towed 20,000 lbs plus for 100,000 of its 160,000 km with no problems at all.

I wouldn't expect to see any mileage gains with an intake and exhaust mod. I bought a muffler elimination pipe from geno's and if fit perfectly. I have drilled numerous holes in the bottom of the stock airbox. I had originally gutted the stock air intake to the turbo, but have since replaced it with the AFE torque tube. When I put the torque tube on the truck I also switched to a Proguard 7 drop in filter. I saw about a 100 degree drop in exhaust gas temps after that.

Did you install the new boost elbow that came with your Edge?
