I'm going with the Moto-Blue exhaust. T409 stainless, 5" down pipe with 4" duals, I hear they sound great, I would love to go with straight pipe but this is Louisiana.

My 04 will "miss" like a gasser at just the right combo - sounds like a flutter,

that's due to too much timing in the BD and the DIY sensor mod,

but it only does it from a part throttle WOT, like coming down an offramp already moving, does once a month or so.

so i don't worry about it...i just got WOT all the time, and it's all good....

make SURE they put your tip out past the edge of the bed...that's what causes most of the pipes that are too loud, the straight peice of pipes angle the tip around where the exhaust resonates the side of the bed.

mine's getting old, been SP for ~2 years, wife won't let me change it.

she picks out idiot drivers to deafen with the SP and blow smoke on.
that gotta be LOUD when you stomp it by someone's window.

i use it to make folks get off the phone AND DRIVE!!!

you need to keep the cat - it's WAY loud (like the 04's) without the cat.

most guys post on here that the CAT is perfect for sound control, yet lets enough flow thru to keep EGT's low.

the one's who have taken it out, put it back in. learn from their mistakes!

Real quick- my 04- I am gonna straight pipe it- 3 1/2 inch right? And how long a piece will I need?

it's 3.5 from turbo back to muff, and 4 inch out of the muffler to the tip.

most folks buy the 4 inch (hard to find locally) from www.genosgarage.com that is in an S.

or Genos has staright 4 inch, as does JEGS.

i put straight 4 inch in mine, that's why the tip pulls under the bed, because the muffler has offset inlet & outlet, and why the S shaped pipe from Geno's is easy-cheezy

if you are getting it done ASAP, the local shops will prolly only have 3.5, and you will be fine. i'm thinking one end of the muffler has a 3.5 to 4 inch peice.

I love my straight pipe, and I have total straight through, no cat no muffler, yes its loud, but I like it cus its not too loud in the cab. Even at highway speeds, there is very little drone in the cab. Its a little worse in the back seat, but its not bad at all in the front seats. Outside, it is pretty loud at WOT. Id say do it, anything is better than stock IMO. Just my .02, i like the loud, rasy sound of a CTD!!! GO FOR IT!!!

whats the best way to do it......just take the muffler out and put in a 4" straight pipe in its place?

thats what i did. its nice unloaded, towing, it gets a little old after a few hours. im sticking with it tho

I recently straight piped my '05 (kept the kitty on). It's awesome. Definately the cheaper route and it sounds good. I couldn't find any muffler shops to straight pipe mine for less that $200 (I live in Alaska) so I bought some 4 inch steel flex piping to lower the cost. Piping plus install was less than $100. The flex pipe was an idea from someone on here and it worked great if anyone else if having problems with expensive piping due to the bends it would take to replace the '05 muff.

Yet! They are already starting to do medium duty trucks and buses. Diesel pickups can't be far behind.

You should be OK as long as you don't mess with anything from the cat to the engine.

I tig-welded an aeroturbine 4040L to the downpipe, welded the cat-shell to that, and a 304 SS turndown just behind the cab; that's the lowest 4" restriction possible without failing tech inspection. There's no drone on the interstate, though I suppose it might be a little loud at WOT if it weren't for the piercing whistle from my homemade super BHAF!

Just wanted to know what the pros and cons are for leaving the cat on vs. taking the cat off? Which is better? I want to straight pipe my 04 but don't know if I should start from the cat or just go from the turbo back?
