straight piped my truck last night

well i finally broke down and straight piped my truck with one of those pipes from Geno's i must say it is a nicely bent piece of pipe and thank god for a cordless sawzall!!! hehaheh .. took me and the wife about 45 mins and i was out of the garage .. first impression is that i idle it isn't any louder than stcok .. and even when i was "gettin on it " up a long hill it isn't really that loud !! to be honest i was hoping for it to be a little louder .. anyway over all i am happy with the results.. and thanks again to Geno's for the top notch service and quality of product !!

Have you removed the cat as well? Those do suck a little bit of the sound out....if haven't and still want louder, give it a shot.

yeah i am hesitant to take the cat off.. i think it will be too loud then .. i must say i really like the way it sounds straight piped now that i have got to drive it a bit more .. and also around these parts we have this thing called "aircare" for the past 15 yrs or so it has been a government cash grab where you have to take your vehicle in every three yrs to get it checked out and they do emissions testing and if they see you have no cat they will fail you .. failure mean no insurance ... so for now i am gonna leave it on ..

If you take the cat off it will get pretty loud and will drone like crazy. I also had a 2nd Gen with a straight pipe. IMO the 3rd Gen are louder when you get into the throttle, but not as loud when cruising or idleing as a 2nd Gen. But I didnt have a 4 inch pipe on my 2nd Gen. I ran my new truck without the muffler for while, but I got tired of my buds telling me that my old truck was louder so I put my cat in the barn.

I agree the 3rd gen exhaust seems a bit louder than the older trucks, but the engine is pretty quiet. I'm getting ready to do a 5" downpipe and 6 or 7" stack. I may stick some sort of muffler in, perhaps the aeroturbine if I don't like the way it sounds. I've heard some stacks sound good and others sound bad. It seems that some of the common rails sound different than others. I've heard a lot of straight piped ones as we all have. My buddy's 03 sounds way different than any others i've heard, he has a 4" straight magnaflow, but it sounds no different than his factory straight piped kit. However my 03 SO sounds a lot different. Then i've heard other newer trucks sound a little more raspy....soooo IDK...
