stock rim size offset?

stock rim size offset?
im not to sure bout the off sets and rim sizes i can go with on my stock 06 2500. i know i got 17" rims with 8x6.5 i beleive. but are they 17x9 or 10? what does the offset mean? i was reading on a leveling kit and read that it can lead to vibrations or even inhance the deathwhobble which i have neither. so what id like to do is go with stock size. i am looking at either xd 797 which comes in 17x8, x9 or the black diamo which are 17x10, and wanting to go with the 265/70/17 nitto trail grapplers, i shouldnt have any problems with rubbing on these? does the offset matter on stock size? they are +18mm on the 17x8 and -12mm on 17x9 and the black diamo 17x10.
thanks

Stock rims are 8" wide. I went with 18x9 with 18mm offset. This is dang near stock. The -12 moves the wheel out from the truck quite a bit. I run 35" Nitto Trails with no rubbing. 295/70/18
It gets kind of confusing looking at backspace and offset! Points to remember: The stock wheel is probably narrower than your new wheel, so if you go an inch wider, that adds 25mm to your rim width. To maintain the same backspace, your offset will be 25mm less.
There are great calculators online... Just google it.

so if i go with the 17x9 with a -12mm since stock is 17x8 that means it would stick out about 1/2" farthur than what i have now?? i wouldnt mind if it stuck out past truck abit just nothing ridicoulous. but if i go with the 17x8 with a +18 would that make it ride further in the wheel well? im going to stick with the 265 70 17 tires. so i should be ok with the 17x9... what are your suggestions?

No....
the +18mm is what you want. The -12 will move the wheel WAY out.
The stock Dodge rim has a 43mm offset. Moving it to -12 makes a change of 55mm plus you add an inch of wheel width (half in and half out) so you'll be about 68mm further out!
The 18mm offset is a difference of 25mm further out than stock, plus the width of the new rim so the outside edge would be out 38mm further. But the key is, the inside edge of the rim will be only 12mm further out (25 - 13 = 12). With a positive offset you'll be closer to factory and some say that can really help the bearings.
Here's a really nice offset calculator and it explains this with pictures:

I have a 20X9 wheels on mine. They are a plus 10 offset and they stick out roughly 2 inches further than stock. I love the look of them sticking out a little further, gives them a nice wide stance imo. But I hate the looks of them if they stick out too far. They will definately stick out a bunch if you get into the negative offsets. And believe me if you want to have good mileage with your truck stay with a close to stock size wheel and tire.
I could get 20 mpg or more all the time on stock tires. I even got 24+ on one tank when I was going 55 trying to get good mileage. My new ones are 12" wide and almost 34" tall and I can't hardly get 17 mpg now. Just something to think about.

A 17 x 8 is what you have stock.
If you change to a 18mm offset, you'll stick out further and should have more clearance inside. It would be like putting Hummer wheels on.
