std cab with stacks needs quiter

im dropping my truck off at the shop tonight to get the cat put back on its inspecton time!!!!!!!!! yay were im at i dont need emissons but it has to be there to pass from what ive heard. i got under my truck and realized that the cat will barely fit back because of my stacks but i want my truck to be quiter (i love it loud but the neighbors dont like it much) i bought some internal stack mufflers but they didnt do jack. anyone have any ideas what i could do???

now im talking goofy but i thought about adding a set up with a butterfly valve i think its called to where i could decide weather or not if i want it loud or quit . i would run a hidden tailpipe for quit and run it to the stacks loud.

i know sounds dumb and dont even know if its really possible

thanks

you may be able to fit a 41" Donaldson muffler and your cat on there???
I LOVE my stack with a 51" Donaldson...someone posted a thread saying they went from the 51" to the 41" and the sound was pretty much the same...deep and quiet..but not too much of either...
I dont know how guys can tow with stacks and no muffler...thats CRAZY loud!

I run an MBRP resonator(12" long) and a piece of 4" pipe inside both of my 6" miters. Its the diameter of the stack that is half the problem. If you had 5's they would be considerably quieter.I put the 4" in mine and cut them just short of sticking out the stack. It made a huge difference.Basically the exhaust is coming thru the 4" but you still have the look of the larger stacks.I ran the drop in mufflers also and like you I thought that was a waste.I used the flared base from the drop ins and cut the louvered setion off and welded 4" to it long enough to not show out the top.PM me if you want more details on how I did it.

i went from 51 to 41"...much deeper smoother sound and a bit louder outside....same silence inside.

I've been using a Flo Pro Twister race muffler and it is perfect for what I want, but it is still a little loud, just smooth. Flo Pro also makes a big muffler similar to the Donaldsons and Nelsons.
