Stacking a 3rd gen
Uh, yeah, I am up to no good already!
Anyone got pics of a stacked 3rd gen? I am trying to figure out if I want the stacks right to the outside edges of the bed, and just how tall to go. I am leaning towards setting them as far apart as I can, and having the tall side of the miter cut 1 to 2 inches above the top of the cab.

Thanks for the link! That's pretty much what I was looking for and wanted to see how it stacked up (pun intended!). I will be cutting the hole, and getting the liner shot in to the bed first. Then ripping the muffler off and stacking it accordingly.

your position in the bed is good, but I might go a wee bit higher... they're gonna be pretty loud, and you're gonna want the sound up away from the cab as best you can without lookin' goofy.
you'll probably want to add some sound deadener to at least the back wall of the cab. having a quad cab will help. my stacks in my single cab got a little rowdy at times.

wouldn't make any difference, I just figured you'd have the smoke blow out to the sides or to the rear of the truck... just never seen it done like that...
rain caps/raker caps/mother-in-law tongues/etc.

My only reasoning on turning them that way was that highway speed wind would tend to push them closed if they opened rearward, thereby cutting flow...They are actually angled slightly forward so the wind catches them forcing them wide open...I suppose I could turn them facing outward and get the same effect...I may try that...Thanks for the input...Ben

oh, I don't think it matters any, I'd just never seen it done like that
I've thought about facing them sideways so the wind didn't try to close them, but I think that w/ two 5" pipes, even if the caps were at a 45* angle, I don't think it would hurt flow for our little motors!
I like the rain caps because they nix the soot shower... I had turnouts, and my white truck looked like crap half the time. BUT, I just LOVE the look of miter cuts! LOL!
I'm seriously considering putting stacks back on, and if I do, they'll be miters!

they were a little rowdy on the highway, and I figured a tailpipe wouldn't be as bad... WRONG!!! the straight 5" pipe was a little quieter at lower RPM, but the resonance at higher RPM was EAR SPLITTING!!
I added a bunch of sound deadener, welded a bunch of pipe connections, and added some pretty stiff hangers, and now the 5" straight pipe is pretty dang quiet inside!
I've been tempted many times to put stacks back on... I just miss that sound!!! the straight 5" sounds wicked, but...
