305hp. You can do it yourself but you definately need a trans jack. These trannies are freaking heavy. If the 3rd gens are like the 2nd gens then your gonna need a frame spreader to spread the frame to take the crossmember out.

I have a Fe.

Its not that bad. Yes it "stumbles"...on take off. Thats about how it feels...
Like others have said, it doesn't slip.

Backing up, give it a little diesel, and it smoothes it out, and if it starts to get herky-jerky, put the clutch back, and try again.

dual disk peddle pressure

How do the pedals pressures compare on the dual disk and the Fe?

Pedal pressure on the Fe is just barely firmer than stock.

I drove my buddies with a DD....its like trying to shove your foot through a brick wall. And with stop-n-go Los Angeles traffic....eh NO...I'll pass.

Yeah the DD's can be tough for traffic and city driving.

3rd gens don't need the frame spreader. I did mine myself in about 4 hrs (including 1.5 hrs to get the flywheel ground) with 1 helper. it seemed to help me to split the trans / transfer case. I second the FE being a little grabby but it is not unliveable.

Boy yall got it easy. When we pulled my buddies out we didn't have the spreader at the time. Took us about 4 or 5 hours of relentless, constant beating. I was underneath their bench pressing the tranny and then dropping it on the crossmember to try and beat it out.

Yeah I did dyno the 501 hp. The clutch holds fine but is some times irritating on take off, uphill in traffic with a trl, or backing a trl. The southbend dual disk I drove just had barely more pedel pressure than my FE. I belive it was their smallest dual disk.

clutch

Hey I am looking for a new clutch as well. 94 CTD , 5 speed with # 8 plate. My stock clutch started slipping today. I pull a 12,000 lb in the winter when it snows. What SBC is recommended for my setup?? Thanks.
