Some TST CR-49 w/ all features Questions
I have the new features on my CR-49 (rail pressure, adjustable timing, different programs, etc.). What I am trying to figure out is some of the nuances of these features. I did not realize that when I got it back from TST, it had been returned to stock on all settings. Yesterday, I changed the setting on adjustable timing from I think 5 or 9 back to "off" and then the rail pressure from 0 to 1 and finally the program from standard to "twins 05".
The truck definitely runs much more smoothly now than it did before, but the power does not seem to be as "violent". It's much better for daily driving but doesn't seem to be as "scary" at heavy throttle. Do you think this has more to do with the timing and rail pressure or the overall program? Also, what are the differences between all of the programs?
I assume I should keep the timing at 0 since I am running Smart #9, but how much should I raise the rail pressure? Do I want to keep adding until I go over 26,500 at WOT? Any other help with me dialing this in would be greatly appreciated!

I went through the same thing with mine trying to get it dialed in. I had the best luck with the pmcr timing on 0, adjustable fuel rail pressure OFF, and 2/1on the power settings, and the smarty on #9. Ive tried to use the adjustable fuel rail pressure, but I had better luck just having it off. You can also try running the smarty on #8 and use the pmcr adjustable timing, that way you can fine tune the timing. Just keep playing with it to where you get the best settings with good fuel rail pressure. Let me know what works best for you since we have close to the same setup, if you find something that works well, id like to try it also. good luck!

Put it on set 15 or 18 sitting still idleing and you will hear what too much timin sounds like. Do NOT drive it like that it would be way too much timin for you but you can hear it that way.
I dont know what else you have besides smarty but I agree that I would put the smarty on 8 and use tst for timin. IMO the smarty may ad a little indirect timing on 8 but that SHOULD be it.
If you want violent put it on tt03, it will get violent. I dont know about the economy setting but the standard is "all in" at 32psi, the tt05 at 24psi and the tt03 at 11 or 12 psi.
If it matters with my mp8 I run my timing on auto 9 or 12. In the colder weather I get a little rattle with 12 so I will just bump it down to 9.
With the mp8 I dont use the rail pressure but if you have an upgraded cp3 I would leave it off until you wanted to race. Mine on level 3 hit 27,500 in the blink of an eye and the rp is much more violent with the tst than the mp8 to ME. I just like the way it drives with the mp8 much better even though I hardley ever turn it on.
I will think some more on it and see if I can think of any other hints for ya.

on my truck if i trun the rail pressure up past two the truck surges real bad but that is with a stock cp3.And if i mess with the timing at all i get some nasty timing rattle. So the adj timing on my truck is useless.

WHat exactly does advancing the timing do anyway? I mean as far as benefits go.
I think I will keep it on the TT03 setting then!

I have better usable power and less rattle when I use the TST for timing and stay on Smarty even numbers. I use an EZ for pressure since my TST does not have the Rail Pressure option available, but have heard that the TST rail pressure is pretty radical even on lower settings.
For daily driving I run Smarty 4 or 6, TST 05 twins with timin set at 12 Auto with settings 3/0. Then leave my EZ on level 1. At the track I was using Smarty 6, TST 03 twins with timing at 15 Auto with settings 4/2 and my EZ on level 2. If I use Smarty 8 then I have to lower TST settings to 2/0 or I drain my rail.
I don't really have a problem with injector rattle unless I really get crazy with the timing settings. Once somehow the TST glitched and the timing got set to 15 constant timing. On take off through low rpm the rattle was so loud I thought I had really broke something bad.
It does take a lot of time tuning the TST, Smarty and pressure stack. Every truck seems to react a little different, so the only way is just a lot of trial and error.
