Smarty on the way - advice

So i feel like i have read a lot on the smarty but just want to ask a personal question. My truck is completely stock except for a kore leveling kit (just installed last week, looks great). Just want to know what setting would be safe and good to set and forget. I daily drive it for the most part with only a few tows here and there, mainly during the summer (bass boat or jet skis). Feel like i dont get crazy at all with it now so i can control my foot (used to have 03 mustang cobra so thats helped w keeping my foot in control). Oh and a side note, where can i pick up a block heater cord? Called the dealer and they said $70, that about right? 07 5.9 btw

Start saving for the the tranny... There will be several guys chime in here and give you some very good info. They have done the homework when it comes to the smarty. One would rather fly than drive.

Good luck

Its is an auto btw. Why does everyone say that about the tranny? If i was easy on the truck even with the smarty what causes the transmission to tank? That really sucks that eventually i'm going to have to come up with multiple thousands for a rebuild..... Anything i can do to prolong the life?

I'm no tranny expert, but mine lasted 127,000 miles with a Smarty jr on 3 pulling 26,000 lbs gross. I put a shift kit in, and I think anyone will tell you that increased pressure will help. There are weaknesses in the stock trans, but they can be overcome.

Perfect, just ordered a block heater and a muffler delete (thought i'd give that a try). Would like to get a turbo back mbrp exhuast, but the funds went to a smarty instead.
So what kinda of settings with the smarty would yall recommend for my use??? I was just thinking the 70hp setting and just take it easy..... I get confused on how yall can change numerous settings but the description on the JR says 40/70/100hp choices?!

I had Smarty Sr on mine for a long time without any transmission issues.. Did upgrade it with close to 100k on it. Drive it sensible and you should not have any trouble.
I will say the differnece in how the truck drives and performs with aftermarket transmission is awesome compared to the stock slushy shifting unit. Firm, Solid and gets the power to the ground. Expensive but worth the price in my opinion.
Best of luck with your truck

Sorry.. I had always ran the higher settings as they did allow the best MPG for me when driven easily. If you set it on the higher settings and keep[ pushing on the long pedal you will lose MPG. Very easy to get used to the quicker throttle response and cost yourself some fuel. It will be more fun to drive with the Smarty configured but you still are the ultimate one controlling fuel consumption.

I run my smarty on higher settings, but I turn the torque management up (on the safer side), it still gives you HP but it just brings it on slower... What your towing isn't really anything taxing at all... just remember your taxing your tranny with the extra, so only step into it hard after tranny is into gear and convertor is locked up, and make sure your not slipping the convertor after lock-up (acts just like a slipping clutch)...

2nd Gear Band is is good for about 100k on a stock 48RE Transmission. Best to just plan for it and since you live in Dallas I can recommend a good shop that built mine and my bro in laws for under 2 grand with a billt torque converter, upgraded solenoids and premium clutch / soft parts.

Or you could spend 10 grand on some "name brand" transmission from the West Coast that comes with free stickers to put in your back window!
