smarty and trans shifting???????

My buddie has an 01 with a smarty and his valve body is pretty touchy now. Dave Goerend said he has a special valve body just for the smarty due to its throttle position sensor reading or something for it to shift normal again. Do the 03 and newer trucks (mine is a 47re) have this reaction? I am going to put in my new trans soon and would rather do a valve body swap before I put it in if need be as I plan to get a Smarty also. Anyone have any issues?

DeTree, your flare might be the converter lock up clutch slipping on you.

As far as the special valvebody goes, I didn't have to have one in mine but every tranny is different and every valvebody is setup differently so it's hard to tell. You may need it and you may not need it.

When Brown's Diesel put in my Goerend VB, it wasn't getting along with the Smarty, thats why I got rid of the Smarty and picked up a Triple Dog- happy with both DL's.

Keep in mind that our old school 48REs use line pressure and governor pressure to determine shifts. They are not fully electronic (hence the 68RFE - 6 six, 8 torque rating, RWD, FULLY electronic).
I would imagine that with the more sensitive throttle, the gov/line pressure ratio is messed with. Therefore, the funny shifts.
