My dad's 06 with the hot juice set on level 6 will hit over 1500 by the time it shifts into 2nd. He took his exhaust loose at the downpipe, took the filter out of the airbox and left the top off, and ran it down the street. IT DID NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Until someone figures out how to change the 3rd injection event back to like it was before '06, they will always run hotter than an 04.5 and 05 with the same mods.

There goes my plan of running more power when towing Looks like the extra towing power will be useless if you have to keep pulling your foot out of it.

No, no, no. You just need to spend a bunch of money, that's all. Big turbo. Water/Meth. Giant Intercooler.

Mine is a 03, and 97's is an 05, I know that there is way more differences between those 2 years than between 05 and 07. Just to make sure, you dont have the 6.7 right?? We are talking the last of the 5.9's?

Kevin
04.5 started the 3rd injection event.

I know of a truck with my same turbo.....he has a juice/attitude only so far for fueling...he can't hit 1200 no matter how hard he dogs it...and he has a 6" lift, 37"s, and 4.56 gears...(also has a ATS manifold like i do)

my buddy here in town with an 06 can't go over 1200* with a boost fooler running crazy larry!!!!

Which guy was it that put a 62/14 on his 04.5 and his EGT's went up? i remember reading it here.

On my truck (stock turbo), level 3 (60hp, not using the boost fooling version)....i cant get past 1200* no matter what I do! Granted, the most i towed was about 7-8k....but i could get it to 90mph (in the middle of nowhere) in a hurry and still wouldnt get past 1200*....again, with a stock turbo....

I would think it's something else, but i'm not a diesel mechanic....

Are you using the latest smarty download (Late December date??)....the previous version did have less timming and it did have higher egt's....also, the current aftermarket injector versions have less timming and higher egts.....

That sucks if the 06+ years have a f'd up 3rd event that causes higher egt's....how come we havent heard more about it on these forums???especially as long as the 06's have been out?

i'm still wondering where the EGT problems are coming from....

16 foot pipe trailer...

1977 jeep cherokee chief as the load (409ci V8, 33" super swampers, its got a little weight)

pulled with an 06....DTT tq converter/valve body, Crazy Larry, and a Quad Boost Fooler.

Yes he towed it with Crazy Larry using the boost fooler. Never saw above 1200*....even lugged a long hill!!!

You can use your power when towing!

I am having the same problems. My 06 with Smarty (level 5) and tst (level 4-0) will peg 1600 about the time I hit overdrive from a dead stop. I realize that I have waaaay more fuel than my stock turbo can handle, hope to get turbo or twins in near future.

I was just wondering if there is anything to this "third event" thing and if anybody has a suggestion, I would surely like to know about it. Kinda sucks when you are racing a ford or chevy and you got to back out of it!!

Why are you stacked on a stock turbo/trans? I bet your truck is toast in 10k.

No smarty is not for sale. 1250 is about as high as I see here but if I get up in elevation the temps are a real problem, I don't know how high but anything over 1200 while towing is not good. The way it sounds is that the factory turbo is going back on till something happens, also getting the 0299 (turbo) code that puts the truck into limp mode once in a while. That really sucks! I do know that the injection software is very similar to what the 6.7's are running

Well let's think about this for a quick minute. As trucks are becoming more compliant to emissions things are bound to change. A catalytic converter works off of heat, thus 3rd injection event. 3rd injection even happens at a very late degree in the combustion process, very very retarded (not in a comment sense, as in advance/retard ). So, this final injection is creating heat to increase the efficiency of the cat. With a program/box that is increasing fueling you are going to create more heat. So it seems that because they changed the timing on the 3rd injection event you will need a program that works to remove or change this process. I don't think going back to the factory turbo will solve your problem, and if it does I would be looking at the turbo and not the fueling.
