Smarty, programmers and trans shifting

Hey guys,

I posted this in the drivetrain section, but perhaps its valid here too.

My 2005 trans likes to hunt here and there. Mostly 2nd to 3rd after I installed the Hawks VB, but it has done it while it was stock too. Last winter for a few weeks it hunted lots first to second as well, then went away, now its hunting again. This is all at very light throttle, some extra throttle and it works fine.

I'm under the impression that there was a TSB on the shift issues for these trucks? Mine is an 05 and its built before june 05 (as that's when I got it).

Does Smarty let you change shift points/firmness, etc? Or any other programmer? I'd rather try to program the trans myself instead of having the dealer do it, those guys are useless.

Let me know what you think guys, i'm worried the trans might be failing with the hunt at low throttle, but it did do it last winter on me as well, and I think it all went away after the fluid/filter change when i installed the tc/vb. But its hard to tell.

Thanks a lot guys, let me know what you think. I plan on going to the dealer for some small work and want to get my truck updated if possible (for trans shifting, NOT FOR MPG or power which I Have no issues with).

Thanks.

Ya, please do, I need to do my own adjustments vs. chrylser. Those guys are useless 75% of the time.

When I did my trans mods I used Dextron III fluid w/bottle of aditive. My 2-3 hunt has been getting worse and the thing started the 1-2 hunt last few days. Found a bottle of synthetic adative to make the fluid ATF+4 today, added that in plus 1/3L of ATF4 fliud, and now can't get the truck to hunt at all. Maybe I didn't have enough aditive, and as the fluid got older it became apparent.

When I get home I'm gonna change the fluid, want synthetic trans fluid with lots of additive, and am wondering what fluid guys recommend.

But regardless, I need to be able to program the trans. I'd like it to shift a little later on at part throttle (shifts too soon I think) and change some of its logic if possible.

ALSO HAS ANYONE FOUND A WAY TO LOCK OUT OVERDRIVE on 05s?

Thanks,

Igor.

Both my 04.5 and 06 hunts between 2nd and 3rd on occasion. It all depends on were the throttle is. I have learned that if you keep your foot on the go peddle a little more this will not happen. I call it fuel peddle pressure. You have to keep the pressure on. I also have found out that these trucks do not like to be babied .

My G56 with GV Over Drive does not hunt, but I have plenty to hunt from.

I like 1850-1900 up hills and 1350-1650 on the flats... 1150 down hill

2350-3200 passing

The Smarty seems to work just fine with shift points It's more like RPM matching.
