Smarty Jr. or Xzilliraider II

Smarty Jr. or Xzilliraider II
Well guys, after looking at all the different options, I have pretty much decided to go with the commander monitor instead of a triple gauge pillar mount. I like the way it looks and will be able to monitor more things. I have seen some pictures of the commander that are silver and others that are black, do you get to pick or whats the deal there?
Also, now I don't know whether to go with the smarty jr. or the xzilliraider II, They both say they give 100hp, thats all Im looking for right now, I like that the smarty leaves no footprint, but I like that the xzilliraider II would be adjustable on the fly with the commander. What are the pro's and con's of each programmer? Help me make a decision please.
Thanks!
Oh yea, I also have 35" toyo mts, and didnt know if the xzilliraider II recalibrated the speedometer like the smarty jr. , and also I am only looking for about 100hp, some improved fuel mileage, and a programmer that will not be so hard on my almost completely stock truck, I don't want to have to replace my turbo or clutch or anything for that matter anytime soon, only have about 21k miles on it right now.

I have been running the Quad Std for a while now, and never had any issues. I mostly run on the 60hp setting. I hear really good things about the smarty, but I don't like downloaders. The Quad should not leave a trace since it fools the ecm. I think it boils down to personal preference, I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

I have had both. I ran the x2 on the 65 hp setting and I am now running the jr. on the 70 hp setting. There is a night and day difference in the way it runs. The jr runs very smooth and consistant. It even made my shifts very nice. It is only rated for a 5 hp difference but runs way stronger and pulls alot harder. My egts are very low as well. Before I put the Jr. on I was considering getting rid of my 35's and going to a 285. I did'nt like the way it ran and shifted and thought the big tires were putting too much strain on everything. With the jr. I am keeping my 35's, it runs great.

I also have the quad standard and use the 60hp setting daily (almost) and tow 12k several times a year. I've been wanting just a little more. Another issue is one uses fuel pressure and one does not. To many that is a big factor as well.

i am in a similar situation as you are in....i think i'm going to go w/the smarty jr. due to it's ability to do the tire sizes, code check, and clean connection (or lack there of)......having analog guages, i'm pretty sure i'd have to tap some wires for the x2. i do like the change on the fly aspect of the x2 though.....

One nice thing is that you can use the two together...
I use the Quad 65HP box and though it does a fine job I may want a little more. Smarty Jr appeals due to all the positive reviews here, so I may take the plunge as a reward for some good deed this year. Luckily I don't have to remove the Quad, just stack it!

you won't have to worry about that w/the use of the commander.....i have plain analog gauges, so i would just hook up the x2, but i think there are a couple of wire taps needed if only using just the x2 BY ITSELF....

The quad uses fuel pressure well within the stock limits, as reported by their site. The newer quad wire harness doesn't use taps anymore. At least not when I upgraded my standard box wiring harness. Not sure about the other model modules though. The big advantage of the quad is on the fly adjustability. I never use the 40 hp setting an on occasion take off from a top using the 100hp setting. My trans is completely stock and don't expect any problems since I don't abuse the truck.

from the products ive seen with my own eyes I dont think quadzilla stuff comes close to a smarty. I have removed quadzilla stuff off my truck. the smarty is on it and has done pretty well. If I were you I would get a normal smarty not the JR. you will get to point where you want more power I think later on. but thats my 2 cents

I have a Commander, and I have both the X2 Std. and Smarty Jr. If I were you, I'd start with the Smarty Jr./Commander combination. And when the bug hits for a little more gitty-up buy the X2. They play really well together.

Sounds good ptgarcia, that's what I was thinking. Is stacking those two together safe on a stock turbo, clutch, etc.? How does the commander fuel pressure and rail pressure gauges work? good? Is the commander hard to install? Local diesel shop told me about $120 to install it. Would rather do it myself if I thought I could pull it off. How do you drill/tap the manifold for the pyro gauge without getting shavings in the manifold? Sorry, I'm not much of a mechanic, about all I've done myself is put on the afe stage 2.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Jonny,
Stacking not too bad, but your clutch will really take a beating! And you really need a better lift pump to keep up with the fueling demands of the stack. Mine runs out of fuel pretty fast without one.
The Commander is easy to install. Give your self a few hours and you'll be fine. The way I did my EGT probe was with the truck running at an idle, I greased a drill bit and slowly drilled a pilot hole, doing my best to remove the shavings as I went. Then I repeated the process with the proper sized bit. Once the hole was drilled I shut down the engine, tapped the hole and installed the probe. Sounds harder than it is, and when I did mine I had no clue what I was doing!
Good luck!

I wish I would have gone w/ the smarty jr. This X2 has kinda become a headache w/the download problems, no Commander update. W/the X2 we only have 3 different downloads to choose from & they ain't that impressive.
