Smarty Jr WG Restriction on 03

As the Smarty Jr disables the WG on the 600 series engines should the mechanical WGs on the 03s be restricted ( ie pipe plug or boost elbow )? Would this result in lower EGTs or would you build excessive boost? thx BP.

Yes, It does help. Get an adjustable boost elbow. You really don't want to go over 35psi or so on the 03s though.

I really don't think you'll be able to drive that turbo over low 30's even with boost elbow, but yes, it will help to get you to that low 30.

That is what I was thinking, this is my first CTD but on my old PSD keeping the boost up certainly helped EGTs. On the Madds sight for the Smarty Sr they mention the big hp it makes with only 30 lbs of boost on the 03/04s... so I expect the Jr probably wouldn't go over that even if I plugged the line ( especially on the 70hp towing program ). Thx for the info... BP.

I won't name names, but I've seen 38-39psi out of a 04 305/555 turbo, a couple weeks later...........BOOM!! No more turbo. But yeah, lower 30s is suggested.

I have pegged mine to 40psi countless times over the last 9 months with no problems, sounds like there may have been some other issues with that turbo.

Your turbo is living on borrowed time...it not a whether...its a when. My other truck lasted 100k of flogging...50k each on two OEM turbo's...lol.

Kinda strange, i've seen up to 45psi on the stock turbo many times. Never touched the wastegate, stock air filter, smarty on 6 towing heavy is when i see those #'s. It's not constant though sometimes i cant see 35. Most of the time it stops at 30. EGT's never climb above 1400* and hardly ever see 1200*.

I've never been able to get my 03 over 32lbs of boost. That's with various combinations of an Edge EZ, Quad Race, and BDDL.

That's probably when the wastegate opens at about 23 - 25 lbs... how are EGTs? Thx BP.

I had to install an adjustable boost elbow to get the boost above 24psi on my '03. No problem hitting 32psi with it installed.

Is the elbow set to max boost to get to 32 or is the valve still partially open?
