Smarty JR Stack

I am on the quest for high MPG. Has anyone stacked the Smarty JR with a Dr.Performance pressure box. I have the (part # 2014 110 hp) one sitting in my drawer and would like to know if it would hurt it or be better. What settings would you have to put the JR on to take advantage of the pair. Or should I just stick with the JR. I just read an article out of a recent Diesel Power book where the person was claiming 34 MPG and had the Smarty Sr with the Dr P box but I don't what Dr P box he has. May have had the 95hp one. Does anyone have any thoughts on this.

From what I've read before on some post the Dr. Performance and the MP-8 are the best to stack with the JR. I would stay away from boxes that add timing as the Smarty already does that for you.

I have run that stack on my 03 & 06 trucks with the Smarty Sr. on the lower levels. It is a very strong, good running stack. I would recommend starting on the low Jr. setting & work up while watching the gauges. The air flow of your stock 03 turbo is going to limit your total hp output before the stack does.

Can you run that stack full time as a daily driver. I don't want to knock another set of injectors out. I drive very conservative and just want to see if I can get better fuel mileage, and as well more power.

Sure you can. You can run the JR and a Dr.P box for everyday driving. I've been stacking my Dr.P box(85hp) with every programmer i've owned. The BDTD, The JR & the SR for over 40k miles. When I ran the JR I would leave it on the 100hp setting. I wasn't out for mileage though, just the power. I'd would say leave the JR on #2 and drive it how ever you want. You'll net good mileage and you will have the power to boot.

I don't know what article you were reading but you will NEVER see 34mpg by just stacking the JR/Dr.P he must of been running Hydrogen or something. This wasn't that single cab Duramax in the Diesel Power Challenge was it?

The best mileage setting on the Jr is #3 (100hp). I have my JR stacked with an EZ, which is pressure only. For daily driving I have the Jr. on 2 (tow/70hp) with TM4, and TQ on 2. I will occasionally kick the EZ up to 2, but not very often. My #'s below were with the Jr. on 3 and EZ on 3. Torque converter exhibited shuddering with Jr on 3 and EZ on 2 and 3.

Long story-short is the Jr will stack well with any pressure chip. I would be more worried about the tanny when stacking.

Grab the the new Diesel World magazine issue April 2009. It says fact or fiction on the front cover. I just read it again to make sure I am not blind in 1 eye and can't see out of the other. Good article. How true, I don't know.

When I was running the JR I would run it on the #3 100hp setting. When winter came I set it on #2 setting, stacked with the Dr.P. I see 18-19mpg on the highway. Mind you I have a lift/big tires and no cruise control. If you are driving real easy you should be able hit 20-21 easy, we do have one of the best year trucks for mileage.

You had no problems with injectors or anything like that. Lots of people are saying stay away from pressure boxes and only use it on the 1/4 mile or dyno. I am confused now.

Honestly, No. I have stock injectors, stock lift pump and a bone stock tranny. I think I have a magic truck. I just hit 100k miles last night and i've been trouble free the whole way.

A common phrase around here is "you got to pay to play". And I know im on borrowed time with the way I run my truck. I have no qualms with that. If something is going to let go it's going to happen regardless. People are having trouble with bone stock trucks, us who push more power are only speeding up the inevitable.

I don't personally think pressure alone is going to give you all of that grief. What about dirty fuel and poor filtering, defective parts to begin with? Just my 2 cents.

Yeah your right, good fuel, filter micron, all play a role. Maybe I will try this and see how it works. I am just a little worried as mine is the 110hp Dr.P..Thanks for all the help.
