Is Smarty Jr. Safe for my Stock Truck

I have a 2005 Dodge Cummins Diesel 5.9 CTD. The truck has 33.7" tires and a leveling kit, other than that it is completely stock.

I am considering the smarty jr. mainly for improved MPG....

A couple questions for those of you with Smarty Jr. experience or product knowledge:

Is Smarty Jr. safe for a stock truck (no other planned mods)?
What are the estimates on fuel economy improvements?
Does MADS recommend other modifications to accommodate the install of Smarty Jr.?
Is it safe to tow with this product (up to the published limitations of the truck & without additional modifications)?

Also..the truck only has 25,000 miles and is still under warranty.

1. yes-- it was purposely designed that way

2. That will differ from truck to truck, driving style, fuel, conditions and etc. so no one can precisely say what YOU will get. I saw 2 mpg others a solid one+ mpg...

3. No

4. Again yes, designed that way. It is explained on the Smarty Jr ad on Mads website or on main page here on DTR ad. Read that info.

Is Smarty Jr. safe for a stock truck (no other planned mods)?
--Absolutely with exception of highest level (100hp) is on the border with the stock trans (manual ok)....as long as you are not flogging the truck conostantly on the highest level, you're good to go.

What are the estimates on fuel economy improvements?
-- depends on too may factors, and it's not one of the things i pay attention too.

Does MADS recommend other modifications to accommodate the install of Smarty Jr.?
-- Nope
Is it safe to tow with this product (up to the published limitations of the truck & without additional modifications)?
-- yep

Also..the truck only has 25,000 miles and is still under warranty
-- Mine has 20k on the clock and i've had the smarty sr. (and beta 4.4) since 3k....no worries, enjoy

Read the post on here...nothing but glowing reviews by a ton of people.....as close to minimal risk as you can get, proven by a ton of people / miles ...very few if any exceptions to the rule...

Talking

Thanks for all of the replies. I also sent a note to MADS....here is their response to similar questions.....

"Hello,
I try to answer to your questions:
Smarty JR has been realised for stock trucks. No other mods are needed. Smarty JR software comes from more than 1 year of research. Only the tests ask to us 1 month on the dyno bench.
Mileage depends most on the driving type. Using the truck in a normal and gently driving, we expect up to 15% of fuel economy improvement.
With Smarty JR we don't recommend any other modification.
Towing is safe with Smarty JR. Towing is the first reason to use Smarty JR.
Till now, the only problem we have found on Smarty JR software is: programming level 1 on a particular 2004 truck, Smarty shows an error message. For that reason we have published the new upgrade on our web site. In these days we are improving power management in 2003 trucks but the upgrade is not yet available, it will be published in the next days.

Smarty S06 adds more power and can manage modified trucks. With high settings on Smarty S06 (above level 5) we recommend aftermarket clutch.
Smarty JR adds up to 100 hp, this level doesn't require any modification."

I think it is time to order!!!

You won't be disappointed. I have mine set on the 100 h.p. program and haven't had any trouble with my stock auto tranny, and I'm not afraid to hammer on it some. I'm also rolling on 35" Toyos.

I know this post is old but I want to just put my results in. I've only run my truck on the MPG and Performance setting on my Jr. I have an 06 4x4 Quad Cab, 6 spd, completely stock besides the Jr. This is an original Jr., one of the first shipments, I have not upgraded the software.

MPG setting, some smoke when really getting into it.

Performance Setting - smokes a lot. Revving up to 1200 RMP at a light will smoke people out - on a nice day, folks are putting up their windows.

Ran from just south of Charlotte NC to just west of Syracuse NY, 780 Miles, set the cruise at 78 MPH. Filled up when I left, drove 400 miles, 16.8 MPG, pretty much average as when stock. From VA to NY, stopped and got fuel, 14.9 MPG (all hand calculated).

Around town, I have seen little to no difference. Maybe a decrease because I get on it. Great performance and driveability, I would say no MPG increase. Still worth the money, just not if you only are looking for better MPG, in my opinion.

would it be safe to have it on the perfomance setting all the time as long as you dont hammer it all the time?, or would you only have it on the 100 hp setting for certain occations?

I am very nervous about changing the programing on my rig.. .IMO Cummins builds a darn good setup... but I just ordered a smarty Jr to drop the EGT's (I think thats EPA not Cummins)...

My dad also ordered a Jr for his 06... he is even more anti chip than I was

I run mine on performance and stack it with my Quad on occasion. No problems with my stock drivetrain.

I'd say you're good to go, trans being the weekest link, so just don't thrash it and it'll last....things are a blast at the 90-100 hp range
