Smarty Jr to replace toasted Van Aiken? 2004 stock auto
My recent problem with the apps/dead pedal issue turned out to be a van Aiken box gone bad. I've had it on my 2004 4X2 since the truck was only 6 month old. Now I want something to replace it and the smarty Jr looks like a good choice. I know this subject has been beaten to death but times change so I'm hoping to get the latest opinions. I have all the required gauges but I don't want to go with another transmission so I guess the power I add can't be all that much right?
My truck has the 305hp motor BTW and I have a bmaf, 4" exhaust from the turbo and it exits in front of the passenger side rear tire. I also have a holley on the frame rail with the canister lift pump gone. I have a double fuel filter set up with the firstbeing a water separator filter combo.
I see the that smarty is running a sale on their programmers but can they be had even cheaper than $500.00?
Lastly, I have an edge EZ on my truck too. Would I ditch this if I got another power adder?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The Smarty Jr. is a excellent programmer and has a very smooth power delivery. Feels like stock but with more power. And the added timing will help lower the EGT's. The Jr. can add 100hp so you can still damage a stock tranny if you get too crazy. Smarty can be stacked with the EZ but personally I would get rid of the EZ, no need to stress the injectors anymore than you have too.
BTW, I had to remove my Van Aaken C3.2 a while back due to a intermittent momentary dead pedal issue.

I thought I remember reading that adding about 100hp is kind of the limit for a stock trans. Is this too much power without a high dollar upgrade.

This will sound lame but what does a sane person drive like? I've only met a few and I didn't get along with any of them
Seriously though. I drive like an old man. ****! I am an old man, no wonder! Once in a while I like to hammer the pedal though. If I do this with the 100 hp setting am I likely going to be buying a transmission or does this happen when someone hammers their truck a lot?
I thought I remembered reading some stuff about "safe hp upgrade" or whatever.
Thanks

I'd get a used Sr. More features and they're for sale for the same price as a new Jr. Lots of '05-'06 users going to EFI.
My Smarty Sr has been rock solid for seven yrs now.
No plumbing with either compared to the van Aiken.

I already bought a Jr. I didnt know these were available here or I would have bought one here.
I don't want to spend more $ on another turbo. I would be too concerned about my transmission coming apart too.
Thanks for the help.

My Van Aaken 3.2 also died about a year ago. It would no longer allow the truck to boost past 26. With it removed it boosts freely to 35.
I had stacked it for years with my Smarty & loved the combo. Now I run just the Smarty on Setting 3.
If I was to do it again I too would go with the Smarty Junior.
Good luck

I have mine set to SW3 with default timing and torque at #2.
It is a dog compared to the edge ez and van aken combo. I had the edge ez and the smarty JR at the same time for one day and got a lot of transmission shudder so I ditched the edge box. I thought I'd get more from the smarty JR but so far the seat of the pants feedback doesn't some close. Oh well.
