Smarty jr Or Exhaust

Was wondering what you fellows thought would be a better way to spend money on first, a SMARTY Jr or a nice 5” stainless exhaust system, should I wait until I have all the money to do them both together, or is the SMARTY fine with stock exhaust.

Thank you all for the advice

How much power do you want to make.

Might want to look at getting supporting mods first. Intake, gauges, 5in exhaust (600hp+) but you will have lots of drone in the cab with a 5in. Tranny upgrades.

With a tuner you have to play it safe since anything over a 70hp tune is going to destroy your tranny if you like to get on the gas a lot

spend the money at a muffler shop and get a good flowing muffler, rokktech or donaldson... Should be able to do that for $50 or so and then get the smarty!!!

i say smarty jr first then just cut your muffler out and put a straight pipe in place of it. This way you will still have cat, but it will sound awesome not too loud not too quiet, and you'll have a programmer for more power and code reading. just my .02, if i could do it over again thats the order i would have went.

1 Smarty
2 Muffler or vise versa. You can do a 5inch later as its not really "needed".

muffler or smarty

From your signature, you have a 2004.5 which as factory 4" exhaust which guys of older trucks drewl over. How much more "free flow" do you need. I agree, throw on an aftermarket muffler for $50 to $65 and be done.

To give you some perspective, the on highway CUMMINs engine, I believe 11 liters has a 4" exhaust elbow in their system.

The smarty will live'n up your truck and may give you some mpg increase.

Don't bother with a 5" exhaust.

The 04.5 600 series were the start of the full 4" exhaust.

+1
5" exhaust is a waste unless you are after BIG power numbers. And if you're only looking at a Jr. I would say you are notgoing for big numbers, just some xtra.

Try posting in a thread related to your topic and if you can't find one start a new one. As for your question I don't know.... probably could... But why would you want to?
