I put my truck back to stock yesterday, just to see what the difference was since the mods, and even stock there was a stream of smoke. Nothing like what the Smarty produces, but i wasnt intentionally trying to get it to smoke. Its a diesel, its going to happen at some point. And my exhaust has a muffler, it isnt straight piped.

Reason I say this is that I have seen alot of '03s bone stock that smoke like a frieght train because of bad injectors. Mileage also suffers. The Smarty Jr. would exploite this problem and make smoke even worse.

black smoke due to bad injectors?

Yes, black smoke due to injectors. For example: We had an '03 with 140k on the ticker. Bone stock. When you even remotly got on the pedal, black smoke rolled like it had a Smarty on 9. We pulled all 6 injectors and sent them off. 2 were real bad and 4 were completly shot. Got 6 new stock injectors, put them in and no more smoke, and better fuel mileage. This is just one of about 5 trucks I have seen this on in the last 6 months. But I do understand why you question the black smoke. Injector issures are often accompanied by white smoke, but it seems more common on a stuck injector than just one that is worn out.

Kuhkuhkyle: This sounds like your issue as well. I would be yanking the stixs and getting them checked out. Or at least get an injector leak down test.
