Smarty and EGT's?
I recently switched from mild tq to moderate tq managment. Before egt's never got above 1250. Now I can hit 1500+ by the time I get to 3rd gear. Whats the big difference?

Agree with the above....BUT: I'm running smarty 4.4 (think it's around moderate tq mgmt) and it fuels a lot harder than 4.11 and i don't have a turbo....and i have never see 1500*....more like 1200*-1300* max
Diff between our trucks = fuel pump, banks, DIY CP3....i can get my fp to 0, but my rp stays above 20+k at wot so i'm not running out of fuel....is your banks on or just using for guages?

I usually run my Banks 2 for a little timing and use the gauges. I can set smarty to stock and turn the 6-gun to 7 and get normal 1250 egts. Now I've updated from v4.0 to v4.11 I can't go back can I?

The even's will be hotter as they dont have timing...and the banks cant do the timing as well as smarty as it's static vs. smarty's dynamic...and the banks stuff is very conservative...
When i spoke of my egt's that was odd levels only...i never, ever use the even....and i cant think the banks on level 2 will add anything the smarty doest already have on the odd levels

At least try it as per above post, as i'm positive you wont be hitting 1500*'s...let us know!

FastTaco,
I did not read your post with enough care.
jgiachino is right on the money.
Easy on the timing...Some of the ugliest engine damage I have seen came from a mismatched or improperly tuned stack.
Much of the entry level performance programmers and P/T boxes that work well as a fuel economy add ons or stand alone power adder's were never intended or designed to function with other high performance parts.
What once was a fairly tame programmer/box can turn into a monster when stacked or combined with the wrong hardware or software!
Combined with hardware upgrades such as injectors, nitrous, or even water/meth and undesirable things can and frequently do happen!
If you want more power it might be easier /safer to update your Smarty and add a pressure box.
Many of the brightest diesel guys in the industry have scattered motors as a result of timing errors... So beware!
