which single turbo?
hey, I know theres plenty of people on here that can probably answer my question. I have been reading about the different turbos but theres way too many to choose from and I dont know what will fit my needs.
I found some good deals on these turbos:
GT45
Borg Warner s474
Garrett Hybrid 60-1
Would any of these work well as a single on a daily driver, but still be able to hit the track every once in a while? Which would be the best?

What kind of hp do you make or are you looking to make? Do you tow with the truck at all? These are really going to help determine which way is the best to go. You dont want to go with too big or too small a turbo. The ones you list there are pretty big to be using as a straight single.

I tow every once in a while but not enough to change this decision, I have a smarty and a fass, i plan on 90-100hp injectors and a bit of a cp3 mod.

I'm not familiar with the hybrid choice you list, but between the gt45 and the s475 I would go the gt45 route... The gt45 will spool faster, from a lower rpm level and provide a little more air over all than the s475... so it is a better choice.
Having said that, I think that as a single those turbos are on the "too big" side to be an effective daily driver and they are better off being primaries on twins even with the fuel upgrades you describe.

i can get the garett for $300 it has 20 miles on it and looks like new, im suspicious that it is a knock-off, but for $300 it might still be worth it. it was supposedly on a 2.5L gasser, so if its too big for me imagine how terrible it might have been for the gasser...lol

All of those turbos are WAY too big. You will not spin those as a single. The reason they work on a ricer is because they have 9,000 rpms and barely light at 5,500 rpms. On your truck, I would go with a 62/71/13 or a 64/65/13. You can actually spin those turbos.

Check out www.dieselpowersource.com They have a turbo that will fit your needs perfect. Then when you decide you want twins you can upgrade to their twins and be one step ahead.
I believe this turbo from DPS is a 62/65/12 or 13. Even with the fueling you mention this turbo should still be plenty for you. The other turbos mentioned are way to big for use as a single even with your fueling mods. You would need a couple of CP3s and bigger sticks to get those moving to work for you, and even at that they wouldn't be very streetable. Sounds like it would be a great sled puller though!

sorry its taken me a bit to get back to the thread.
Im gonna check out DPS.
I like to do things right the first time, and I would love to get a real good turbo right off the bat. This time however, I dont mind getting a temporary turbo until I can buy a better one, because I have a buddy who won't spend more money on a great turbo but he will be willing to buy the not so good turbo from me once Im done with it.
