Simple Tranny Fixes or Upgrades
Howdy!
I doubt that I'll ever bomb my truck. The most I'm likely to ever do is put on a low restriction air filter, a set of mild injectors and a low restriction muffler if I can find one that is quiet enough. Other than the air cleaner, I'll not do the other two until they need doing either. So basically my truck is more or less stock. Mostly it is a daily driver and I hope to take a couple of RV vacations a year in it with a medium bumper hitch camper. Occasionally I'll haul a load of brush or some materials on an 18' trailer.
I've noticed that the stock torque converter seems to have a stall speed of 2200 or so. It seems like this truck would be better served with a stall speed of more like 1700, or would that be too low? How much does it cost to get a new Torque Converter, can I do it myself, and what are the warranty concerns?
Are there any other simple transmission mods that I should consider?
I live near Dallas, TX if anyone has a shop to recommend.
Thanks,
Tad

suncoast converters are 1300 and they are a world of difference over stock. it means it will hold power instead of slip all the time. i dont know on the stall someone that builds trannies could answer that. your warranty may be gone if you have a strong converter, but I dont know. I dont take my truck in unless I have to. I dont want them snooping around to see whats on it.
