Hey guys, about 2 years ago I straight piped. Due to an exhaust leak I picked up the Magnaflow high flow cat for the future inspection. I was thinking of going side exit. Any thoughts on tire heat and soot.

Any Pics to go along would also be great.

i was thinking of doing the same thing- but you go from just soot on the rear bumper to soot down the bed of the truck and all over the rear tire/rim. plus if left on there long enough could stain... i like the idea, just doesnt seem that great once you think of how much soot you blow down the side of the truck

I was thinking that as well. I know tips have a lot to do with soot displacement. If I went with a straight i was thinking the pressure may shoot the soot out far enough. If you go turndown, I think you would end up with more soot dragging down the side.

yea but how far out do you intend on setting your tip out? plus you have to think youre moving so its blowing the soot back towards the truck as youre moving...

I am hoping to see what people who have been running this set up have been seeing. Ryclef331 doesn't seem to be having "that much" of an issue. Soot on the wheel... I can deal with that.

Dont go with a side dump trust me i did and ended up with a mess. I had to use diesel fuel and steel wool to get it off twice over about a year and it took about 2hrs of scrubbing too.

my mud flap is starting to get chared from the heat and that is 12" in front of the tail pipe i could only imagine what would hapen to the rear tire(s) on a hot day pulling a large load?

I would agree with offroad, I would worry about the heat to the tire if pulling heavy load. However, if you don't haul much, are not old and lazy like me, I would say go for it if it is something you are stoked about.

I do plan on getting a toy hauler in the future. My main concern is the heat. The last thing I need are tires to be blowing out because I want my rig to look Edit. You know what I mean?

Besides the heat on the tires what about soot interfering with the disc brakes? Just an idea

My buddy had a side exit on his 97, now he has 4 Helo Max 8 rims with heat rings on them...bad idea.

Just curious, what doese a heat ring look like? How noticeable is it?

Don't get it.

Anyway, I just got it done and decided to go straight after the cat back to the stock location.

I think I may need the 4040 back in there. The drone with the cat is not that bad. But, if I have a load... it will probably be pretty ANNOYING!!!

They look terible, very noticeable. Their kind of like light blueing on a firearm? About an inch or two wide all the way around the rim, after a few tire rotations all the rims are like that.
