Can the S400 be sent in to be "upgraded" to a s480 or is the s480 a whole new purchase.

I have a 62/12 over an S-400 on my 1996 Dodge CTD and am very happy with it. Very little lag, excellent throttle response and power is good. With that being said, I am getting ready to try the S-480 on the bottom.

According to my good friend Tim Barber @ "TRE Diesel Performance", he saw about a seventy (70) horespower INCREASE going from the S-400 to the S-480. That is assuming you have enough fuel there to make the jump, which on my truck I do. As I recall, the S-400 has a 74mm compressor wheel and the S-480 as the number implies, jumps up to an 80mm compressor wheel.
On my 96' 12 valve, if I experience alot of "bottom-end lag" I will go back with the S-400. I will keep you posted on what I see on my truck.

Well I placed my order Friday w/ Nathan. I am having second thoughts now over the 400 or the 480.
So do I have enough fuel yet for the s480? If so I will call Nathan first thing Monday and change to s480!!!
Another thing will the 480 tow well? I only tow a 6 x 10 utility trailer.

The S400 is more than enough with the stock sticks. If you're planning on doing sticks then I would think about going up to an S480 (depending on the size of the sticks).

Mine does great with the S400 and Flux 2's.

S400 will be more then enough for your fueling IMO the S400 would probably work better if you swapped out the 74 wheel on the silver to a 71 sps wheel or better yet the 65 phat shaft wheel with the increased flow of the silver housing would be a quick spooling twin set

buyer beware................. start pushing too much power = start breaking parts often and also frequent transmission rebuilds will be normal , tires wear quicker , brakes wear faster , u joints, ball joints , all seem to go away a heck of a lot quicker but of course your truck will be faster LOL.......

I don't know...

My S-480 runs fine at 450 hp and up...

You need to honestly decied how much hp is the end goal.

Stuff starts breaking above 600 if you use it!

Hey cquestad,
Thanks for your replies, I will look into the 71 & 65 wheel's.
My ONLY other mod's will be some small stik's from Don and possibly more work on the cp3. That is all I need for a work/play truck.
One more question... will the silver62 need to be sent to II or some reputable co to have the 71 or 65 wheel installed or is it something I can do??
Thanks again!!

Before you spend money on it you ought to try to see how the Silver will do in its current form. You might be pleasantly surprised and you'll keep the lower drive pressures that come with the 74mm wheel. If the lag truly is more than you can handle then send it to II to change out the wheel.
