Are shocks needed?

I have a skyjacker 2.5" lift that is being installed on thursday by a local body shop, my question is, I got shocks for the front for the new coil springs, but not for the rear add-a-leafs, are they necessary in the rear?

With 2.5" in the front, you really don't need to do the add a leafs in the rear. The AAL's will stiffen the rear springs worse than they already are. The truck should sit pretty close to level with just the front.....

You don't need new rear shocks, but you'll want them.

Cowhand, do you think in his position that rearched springs would be better in his situation on the rear if he truly wants to raise the rear 2.5"s? I had it done on my 76 CJ7 a few years back and liked the end result but I ultimatly swaped them for Old Man Emu springs and shocks for a cushy ride. I guess that would depend on wether(I need a spell checker) or not he pulls a heavy trailer all the time or something.

I'm not a big fan of re-arching springs....they tend to lose their arch fairly soon. Essentially an AAL re-arches the spring. The proper way to do it would be complete replacement spring packs. Unlike their coils, I've heard folks are pretty happy with SJ's replacement leaf packs. They are more $$ though.

AAL's and blocks are pretty much just a cheap way to lift the rear, AAL's destroy the ride quality and blocks cause nasty axle wrap.

If you tow, I'd keep the stock spring and add an air bag or helper spring.
