I hope this one works out well. Peter at SB was really cool about my busted master cyl. He said to make sure I did not gouge/scrape some of the plastic off of the master when I spun it in. Even a lil' too much muscle on the first turn with the cyl. not perfectly perpendicular to the metal plate/flange can make the master cyl. fit loosely for life. He suggested I remove the lil' metal plate/flange piece to make sure it is spun in properly. I figured I would pop a few photos for others to see a safe way to install it. Still just a total of using a socket a total of four times for the whole job.

Number four. Here is the plate removed. You can't put it in 180 degrees off, it is keyed to go one way.

I must say, looking at this now, I wish I took another photo or two of the master cyl. popping in & turning in the flange.

I'm getting ready to complete a clutch install and hydraulic system swap this weekend. What was wrong with the first master cylinder and what do you mean by "spun it on"?

John, thanks for posting all the pics...

I can't believe how the master cylinder is attached to the firewall bracket. That is a very poor design
& prone to failure with the stock clutch let alone a heavier aftermarket clutch.

I can see that the Southbend's kit has a metal reinforcement backup plate on the slave cylinder.
There should be one on master cylinder also.

Knock out those 2 pressed in bolts in the firewall bracket & install a plate that backs up the master cylinder that could be held on by those bolts.
The plate would have to be knotched to be able to slip over the reservoir hose. I wonder how the master cylinder is formed behind the rubber boot?

Do you have a spare master cylinder around to take some pics of the cylinder with the rubber boot removed?

A master cylinder metal backup plate would prevent the plastic tabs from letting go &
would be consistent with the slave cylinder metal backup plate.
