a ruff runnin cummins 600

im working on a truck for a guy it a 04.5 like mine but auto only power adder is edge ez , truck cranks forever before it starts when it does it sounds fine idling but misses up past 17-1800 Rs installed new pump in tank genos cap on fuel filter top for press. guage reads 12-13 ideling now cleaned afe filter, replaced fuel filter while i was there added cleaner right to the canister for a strong dose shot the manifold with my temp gun, back 3 cyl. 150 160ish front cyls. 142-152ish nothing way off in my opinion. whats odd if you slowly rev the engine to passed 2200 and let off it miss really bad comming down to idel, if you punch it while at 22-2300 it acts as if it will " run away" it runs to 3500+ and hangs there missin like crap then after maybe 3-5 seconds it starts back down but missing real bad till maybe 1700 then drops fast and idels good, t. response is even good idel to 1700. what am i missing i hate to send this guy to get screwed at a dealer help me fix this guy up, i read somwhere taking off and cleaning somthing on the rail is it the switch where the press. side of the ez plugs in or the taller return blow off or whatever that thing is next to it? any thing else? thanks so much Ryan

Sounds like an injector issue... One getting stuck open could seem like a run away... Did you try an injector kill test?

Sounds like you have a bad injector you need to put it on a drb scanner via dodge house believe me it is worth the diagnostic fee to do it and them pinpoint exactly what injector solenoid is hanging up. It kinda sounds like you have a bad fca valve on your cp3 also if you unplug it and it changes the way the truck idles that is a sign it is bad.

thanks guys for the responses yes the first thing i did was remove the ez, i just drained the canister and refilled with p.s. again and drove down the road came back, still long cranks then finally start, runs reeal strong on the road really didnt feel it missing at all just hard to start. minutes ago removed both items on the rail and cleaned them really no diff. my gut says the first thing i removed on the cp3 but duno while its running if you unplug it it go to knocking and banging and missing and pluging it back in do not fix it , you have to kill the truck restsrt poss. 2 x maybe rev it a little before all that crap goes away then back to nomal idel sounds good a all just long to crank. i thought if i keep on doing the p.s. in the filter can id brake loose some crude if they were some somewhere .....not yet... what does the FCA do anyway is this what i removed a cleaned it had [3] T25 screws holding it on??? thanks again ryan

went back out cleaned map sensor, int. air sensor, fca again with same results but checked for codes again and got 0251-2269-0088 looked them up and cp3 reg. control, water in fuel, rail press. signal max limit. in that order did i trip these while having these apart or is this not pointing a part that is for sure bad a simple part replacment would be cool, what does this fca do is it the same as cp3 reg. control [ maybe maybe baby]

The FCA is what tells the CP3 to produce. It could have a bad rail sensor though which would cause the rail pressure rational to be monkeyed up. The ECU might call for one pressure to the FCA but the rail sensor is reporting something different. Not sure what a rail pressure sensor costs but you might be able to swap yours in for a test to at least eliminate that.

BTW, when my EZ took a dump my truck sounded like a top fueler idleing. It took a long time to start as well. When I got my EZ back I plugged it in with my new rail gauge and the same thing happened. My rail gauge harness was messed up and wasn't allowing contact on one of the pins in the connector. I fixed that and it started and idled like a champ and has been running awesome for about a year now.

If you've got your truck there and you're thinking its the rail pressure sensor, you should be able to take yours off and put it on his. Same thing for the FCA. I had a problem in my fuel system and in parts swapping with my cousin found out it was the rail pressure sensor.
